At that stage, Gohan was going to replace Goku as the lead but the higher ups wanted more money and thought with the popularity of Goku that it was a bad decision. So Gohan WAS stronger than Goku for a bit.

Whhhaaat really? But the manga came before the anime right? Does it go differently in the manga? That’d be a huge cliff between the two. Or did the higher ups (of anine) press the writer relatively early on to make that change? Wild.

Goku’s hair doesn’t all go straight up like that except when he’s Super Saiyan, and when he is Super Saiyan, his hair is wider/longer than that. Also, you can see Gohan’s characteristic hair curl at the front of his head.
Basically, hair looks like Goku’s SSJ hair but black and significantly shorter, and a curl at the front of the head. This is 100% Gohan.
