Which part of the globe are you folks based on? Any advise for someone seeking opportunities in another country (that may require visa sponsorship)?

We are throughout USA and Europe. I can give you personal advice as someone who emigrated, and you might want to ask the question in the community chats of different chapters, but TWC is for collective action, not for individual career support

Where can I read about the requirements? Did whole, I’m prepared to pay dues to belong in a guild or union, depending on cost, and also I’m currently unemployed. Am I welcome, even? Lol.

we don’t take dues and we are not an union in a legal sense. Requirements: time, energy, and motivation to learn and contribute. You’re going to get trained on things once you join.

You can Google tech worker coalition and check out their website. This post deep links to a zoom meeting url which isn’t the most helpful for folks in your situation, but yes the TWC does have other resources online.

I know, idealists think that even if we cant change the world immediately, we must at least keep our movement completely pure. They end up painting the coalition as compromised sellouts and do their all to kill all progress from within. By all means, let’s have a huge argument about what tiny, open source video service to use so that we can even talk to each other. Fuck!

we have our own self-hosted infrastructure for critical data. We use Zoom just to passively filter FOSS purists and hackerinos. (jk, not true, we do it because the infrastructure group prioritized other things, but it works anyway)

Good! If I find out you were hand rolling a video service so you could hold a meeting, I’d roll my eyes and move on :D
