I don’t trust anything that goes online

They have CIA they have espionage they have all sorts of things. They don’t have full state owned media. They don’t get by default access to your data. Companies can and have refused.
To say China and the US are the same for their citizens is just stupid …
Fair enough , done a little digging. Some things definitely make me question some things
I have nothing against Chinese people. I have the same fear of Russian owned products. I have the same concern with US companies with seedy backgrounds. It’s purely an issue of government/ agency not the color of the skin.
And I’m sorry to say “china doesn’t give a shit about you” I don’t buy that. I’ve heard of some borderline ridiculous stuff governments do on citizens of foreign countries. The US included.
I got my answer in an albeit odd way. Yes they track. So I’ll keep avoiding.
Am I crazy not to trust Chinese developed games ?
There is no question over the last 10 years the quality and production level of Chinese developed games has seem to sky rocket. Many of these games even being free to play. But honestly I haven’t played a single one. For the same reasons I refused to download TikTok.
China is a well known surveillance state. I worry downloading and playing these games especially on a PC or mobile phone would just be a huge privacy risk.
Am I being to paranoid ? Are there some regulations I’m not aware of that might protect me anyway ?
I feel like I’m missing out on some really high quality visually striking games because of it
Can’t say I know of any. I only play Elite time to time. I hate the asteroids these games currently have I don’t think I need them any more mobile

Games@lemmy.world•Meet the players who lost big money on Peter Molyneux’s failed LegacyEnglish
12 daysI looked into it (should be telling of the company) Thus far still just a lot of overpriced digital content. Over 100 dollars for a digital spaceship. 🚀
Can be a fun game if your computer doesn’t implode trying to play it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you talked to Big Tech workers about their ethical qualms? Do they question themselves, think they're doing the wrong thing?
13 daysMost people who work for these companies aren’t evil laughing as they break the toes of kittens for their corporate over lords. As many others have said most people go in with the best intentions. Do their best to help companies achieve goals but ensure their products do what customers want. It’s the upper management that comes in and enforces less than desirable programs and enforces eshitification.
It’s a challenging balance and sometimes you just outright lose. People work for these companies for great benefits, connections, skills and the clout that comes from working for huge companies.
I’d argue it’s no different than most roles for most companies. Even look at YouTubers and social media influencers. Some are out there trying to have fun and entertain people with stuff they love. Others are doing anything and everything to make a quick buck even that involves tricking people into storming the capital on a complete lie. Allowing people to risk their livelihoods in the process
I worked for a companies who sole purpose was to allow Fortune 500 companies to pay less then a person who worked at McDonald’s in taxes. You do your best to improve yourself and the company hoping you don’t cross some moral line.

13 daysIt’s not just Molyneux, even Will Wright has been behind some weird NFT project. As an old boomer that idolized some of these people it’s a real let down. Dark Knight was right man: you either die a hero or become a villain

Games@lemmy.world•Call of Duty was never the right fit for Game Pass | OpinionEnglish
14 daysI love how they think removing call of duty and lowering the price (just barely) while keeping the tiers the same would be seen as value adding. Game Pass plans have become shit. They never should have bought COD to begin with. It was on the decline already.
I made a similar argument about this a few days ago and got lambasted. I personally think payoff is important. As an adult I have a lot less time for games. To just “do” something when there are so many things to do and even other games to play has to mean something. Not just a “stat” boost. I don’t need another fetch quest. I don’t need a pointless collectible. If I’m doing something I want to be rewarded for it. A bit of lore actually acted out or even better yet new gameplay I didn’t have before.
I’m not saying an arcade type game can’t be fun or worth time. But that gameplay loop in itself has to feel rewarding to me. And in a growing list of games feeling the game the gameplay loop itself holds less value. As 10 of the last 15 releases on Steam have that same damn loop.
This is clearly a subjective thing but I’ll say personally I need to feel some intrinsic value for my time. And lately I haven’t been feeling reward. As a result I am playing less and less games these days …
I’m going to do my best to word this question carefully. I’m not privacy expert and maybe no more than an idiot. I do want to protect myself online.
Which led me to privacy focused cloud based premium solutions. The idea is you can pay for a service so they don’t need to serve ads and scan your data for profit. Services like Kagi , Proton among others offer services for a fee. These services let you pay with a credit card .
My question is , are these services really that private if they have your payment information ? Does it really make sense to pay to not be tracked but still have your information on file and linked to you ?
Is this more of an argument of privacy vs anonymity? Am I looking at this wrong ?
I understand the ultimate privacy is self hosted but for some things like search that limits options. I understand there is crypto for some of these options. But bitcoin isn’t cheap.
Curious to get others thoughts on this ? Please be respectful i am trying to learn…
I bounce back and forth from Darkstar to Warp. My area is terrible for T-Mobile in general. So that’s good to know !

Games@lemmy.world•US hardware sales rose 69% in March 2026 following strong Switch 2 performance | US Monthly ChartsEnglish
19 daysI’m not surprised and if Nintendo can keep the system at 450 and not increase the price. its sales are likely to only improve. With others rumored to moving to a hybrid pc concept , the Switch 2 will have the advantage of being the most accessible and affordable system available. Sony is unlikely to follow in Microsoft’s footsteps but if they do it will only help Nintendo. Especially with where the prices will be for the “next gen systems”
This is great news. I can get physical sims. Now I just need to pick a pixel phone. Thanks everyone !

And if you actually play it you can see it’s also retelling StarFox …
So no matter what you play it’s a reinterpretation of StarFox 64.
I’m excited for wild blue but it needs some tweaking
