I vividly remember my mother griping about how expensive everything had become and asking how anybody was supposed to afford that. Some things just never change.

Unless you want to go professional or do something for profit, I’d just get some cheap old box and start mucking about. Just make sure you don’t put any important data on it and be prepared to wipe it and start from scratch a few times. After a while you’ll have a better idea of what you want to do and a clearer way forward.

The frame is a gaming computer in its own right but can also be used as a display. There’s nothing wrong with the Quest from a technological standpoint. It’s just that you’re forced into the closed Meta ecosystem in order to use it. Many people don’t want to be there these days. Steam hardware tends to be open and moddable. Let’s hope they keep that up with the upcoming products.

If you use something like Mint or Ubuntu, you never need to see the terminal.

The Deck probably looks too toylike for many people. The GabeCube might really make an impact, if the price is right.

What it takes is people being able to buy a Linux machine at the local electronics store. Installing your OS yourself is still a major hurdle for most people.

Unfortunately, RAM production is not something you start up on a whim. There are only a few players and adding new capacity is a very long process. They won’t do that unless they’re convinced that the market will still be there in a couple of years.

My work computer runs Windows 11, but our IT guys have turned off pretty much all the annoying bits, so it works pretty OK.

A bit isn’t represented by a one or a zero, that’s nonsense. A bit can take the state of a one or a zero and is represented in various ways in digital circuitry.

So what do bits represent then, if not ones and zeros?
