  • At the time, I had to take a break from work to lock myself in the bathroom and cry. And even thinking about it today breaks my heart. The saddest part is that he was still active, he was really excited working on Dragon Ball Daima, and then…

Rest in peace, Master. Your legacy is several generations long, you’ll never be forgotten.

  • The problem I see is consistency. Whatever the AI generates for a given source won’t be consistent throughout the game. Even in the original Digital Foundry video, you can see how Grace’s face looks like a totally different person depending on the distance from which it’s viewed.

The artistic style is supposed to solve that consistency issue, but this AI is ruining it.

(Also, in the same video, you can see they were using two 5090s to run the DLSS 5 games, so…)

  • Personally, I don’t know much about this technology. That said, I’ve heard that the original purpose of DLSS was to improve gaming performance, give you more FPS, and so on.

In that sense, many—myself included—are wondering: How is this slop generator going to improve game performance? How is giving Grace from RE9 a totally different face with make up on going to improve my gaming experience?

  • Well, you aren’t entirely wrong…

    • AI uses already existing data to create “new” data / Dreams uses things you experience throughout your life to create the scenes you see

    • Both are imperfect facsimiles of reality, very convincing at first but falls flat with a more detailed analysis

    • AI tends to hallucinate / dreams tends to be really weird

    • Places have no sense of permanence in dreams nor in AI.

    • some may argue dreams have no real meaning or purpose, it isn’t a coherent narrative, just like AI.

Of course, it isn’t a 1:1 relation, but I kinda dig it.
