Maybe it’s my psych degree, but I refuse to believe that any human is completely irredeemable. While many mental illnesses cannot be ‘cured’ in a traditional sense, they can be treated and even incredibly dangerous people can heal. When you kill someone, you remove their chance to heal forever.

There’s just no excuse for capital punishment. It’s a vile practice done for the benefit of other people’s perverted sense of justice.

People are slaves to comfort, and ultimately that is what Microsoft and Apple are trying to sell. They want something that idiots can’t break, and they know the best way to do that is lock down the OS so much that you’re hardly able to interact with it at all. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of people fundamentally unwilling to expend the very, very small modicum of brainpower necessary to use Linux these days, and I just don’t think there’s any chance of reaching them.

I don’t know about Galaxy Quest, but the early 2000s were big for the R-rated sex comedy, it’s probably the defining genre for that time period in my mind. Wet Hot American Summer, Wedding Crashers, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Another Gay Movie, etc. Idk what exactly it was and I think a lot of the era aged pretty poorly tbh, but it was definitely the style of the time. You even kinda see it bleed into other genres of the era, like Freddie vs Jason is ostensibly a horror film but has a lot of shots that would not look out of place in a raunchy comedy.

There was even going to be a third movie, but between the second one underperforming and Freddie walking away citing issues with censorship of the first movie, which I believe was initially going to go for an R-rating, as well as the studio kinda underpaying everyone for the second, it got canned.

What’s wild is that while I remember loving the second film as a kid, as an adult I think the first is just a fundamentally better movie. There’s a lot of fun moments in the second, like sexy Velma or Shaggy and Scooby raiding a fridge of potions, but the plot really feels like an excuse to have a series of unconnected bits, whereas the first is like a real movie with characters having arcs.

so far my cats have watched Inuyasha, Bleach, the One Piece 4kids dub, and Ranma 1/2. Considering they seem just as happy watching the TV’s demo reel, I think they just enjoy the lights and colors. It’s some enrichment in their environment though, so I always try to put something on for them if I’m gonna be out of the house for a chunk of time.

I dunno if it was the best, but the pizza that lives in my memory was a whopping 24" pizza from a local place. That’s over 450 square inches of 'za, or 11 square meters for the Europeans.

It was glorious, and took four incredibly high stoners about a day and a half to work through.

I’m talking from a US perspective, but I work in an education adjacent field that reviews a lot of homeschool student’s academic records from across the country. IMO, there are two types of homeschoolers. There’s the students who are truly brilliant living in a part of the country that doesn’t value education, and they’re practically forced into homeschooling (or a popular online program like Stanford Online High School) in order to receive an actual education that could challenge them. They do get less socialization than their traditional schooled peers, but they’d get mercilessly bullied at a traditional school so it’s hard to say how much value that socialization has.

The other type are the religious fundies. I have even more hands-on experience with this style, as some of my cousins were homeschooled in this manner. IMO, this shit should be illegal. It’s accepted because someone is typically monitoring these students’ academic progress, but I can say with confidence that Republican states are letting a lot of shit slide. It’s religious indoctrination at a level beyond what you would even find at a religious private school. Typically, these students are better socialized than the other homeschool students, though with the caveat that all their socialization happens in religious settings.

I’m finally at a place where I can aim for a 1.0 ratio, but I’ve noticed that a lot of the stuff I torrent just uh…is not very popular lol. Some of them haven’t had a single peer in months! It’s kinda fun keeping an eye on it, sorta like a popularity contest.

my one concern is that I wouldn’t want a salad dressing touching my fries. especially since I tend to prefer a light vinagrette.

I wonder if such a sauce exists that could function as both salad dressing and fry sauce. probably something starting with a thousand island base?

Been pretty good. swapped over to Bazzite, which does just about everything I need for a daily driver. Only real annoyance is my VPN. I haven’t been able to successfully connect through the openvpn configs that PIA provides, so I’ve been setting it up through terminal every time I log in. I think if I really sat down I could set it up to autologin, but it only “costs” me like 30 seconds and sometimes I like to connect to a server that allows port forwarding instead of a non-PF closer server. I also like getting to make the choice of which server I connect to vs autologging in to the lowest latency server.

I still have to use Windows 11 for work though, and holy shit do I prefer running two commands in terminal when I login to dealing with all the dumb fuckin bloat that OS has when I go home.
