5 monthsEven more than that, it’s a verb. “Have you done the hoovering yet?” or “Don’t make a mess, I just hoovered” are both perfectly normal sentences here. 😃

I really wanted to like it, but it’s already a right-wing cesspit. 🤷♂️ Maaaaaybe it’ll improve, now that it’s public, but I don’t have high hopes.
I know this place is just the opposite kind of echo chamber, but when the other option is being beaten over the head with transphobia and Maga shit, ehh, I’ll take it.

5 monthsI’m going to get one at some point, because my OG Switch’s battery swelled up so I got rid of it. It’s more about being able to play my existing games, than being in any way excited about spending £70 on new ones. 😔

Technology@lemmy.world•Firefox Will Ship with an "AI Kill Switch" to Completely Disable all AI Features - 9to5LinuxEnglish
6 monthsThere’s the slow-and-not-very-capable link preview thing… and I could’ve sworn the “what’s new” page the other day said they were adding an on-device model to improve search results or something, but I can’t find the reference to it now.
Maybe they removed it after all the AI backlash. 😬

Technology@lemmy.world•It just keeps getting worse - Firefox to "evolve into a modern AI browser"English
6 monthsEvery product we build must give people agency in how it works. Privacy, data use, and AI must be clear and understandable. Controls must be simple. AI should always be a choice — something people can easily turn off. People should know why a feature works the way it does and what value they get from it.
Come on, this isn’t Reddit, at least skim the article before you start with the performative outrage.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•I sometimes can't sleep at night. Perhaps my brain's "CMOS Chip" battery ran out and my circadian rhythm defaulted to my "factory settings" of Beijing Time (UTC +8), which would explain my insomnia.English
6 monthsBut seriously tho, it’s just depression, can’t sleep, hence this showerthought
Well… maybe. You’ve accidentally come up with something that actually exists, called Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder. And about half of people with DSPD have depression. 😬 (Also common in ADHDers.)
The circadian rhythms of people with DSPD are offset compared to people without it, so it is a bit like time zones in that respect. And if you try to “fight” it, by getting up early and holding down a 9-5 job, the effects are often compared to jet lag.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Type-2 Diabetics of Lemmy: What were some of your symptoms that you only realized after your diagnosis were symptoms of diabetes?English
6 monthsYou’re so welcome! Good luck getting whatever it is figured out!
Assuming it’s the same feeling, it’s such a weird one to try and describe. I think that rings true though: it’s like a caffeine buzz, only it makes you feel sluggish instead of energised. 😅
YMMV, but if it is diabetes, the good news is it probably won’t take too many changes to start feeling better. I just went as low carb as I could bear (probably more Atkins than keto, so nothing too drastic) and cut out caffeine (it can cause blood sugar spikes). For now, that’s enough to manage it without any meds or finger-pricks, and I feel so much better! You don’t even feel that deprived when you’re having rich, creamy sauces on everything, and I’ve lost 32 lbs in less than 3 months, even while snacking the normal amount. 😂 I don’t even really exercise!

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Type-2 Diabetics of Lemmy: What were some of your symptoms that you only realized after your diagnosis were symptoms of diabetes?English
6 monthsThis probably sounds stupid, but I just kinda… started feeling diabetic? 😅 Like, how I was feeling matched my extremely vague idea of “what diabetes might feel like”, so I asked for blood tests, and yep.
I don’t think peeing a lot was really part of mine. I just found eating usually made me feel worse instead of better, and I was starting to get occasional tingling in my hands and feet.

7 monthsWhat’s a better way to say “possibly possible”?
That is, it may be possible for humans to colonize Mars or create sentient AIs, or for you to lift 400 pounds, but we don’t know yet.
You answered your own question. 😁

The dummy putting together the original post obviously realised if the instruction was “wear pink or blue to show what sex you think the baby will be”, it would’ve gotten in the way of their faintly racist boomer joke.
But they didn’t have enough braincells left over to realise the whole thing now doesn’t make any sense.
