anybody using COSMIC and know if it’s ready for use as a daily driver yet?
I have been using it for months. Looking forward to this update as it has been a bit memory heavy.
Overall, it has been working great for me. There have been bugs though, especially with multi-monitor. Again, looking forward to trying out this update.
There is still room to go on the polish front I would say. And the built-in apps are still a bit basic. It all depends on your tolerance.
I have been using it for some months now. It has all you need for daily driving and the features work flawlessly. Just don’t expect too much.
So many alphas but no beta
soon ™
Alpha vs beta is usually about feature completion. I am quite happy they have more ambition in terms of what features they want to ship.
Progress has been steady and each alpha has delivered a solid list of improvements. This looks like a good one, especially the memory usage.
I guess it takes time to built a DE from scratch.
If this becomes a good replacement for GNOME I’d pay the profit margin of a System76 laptop for it.
The best part about COSMIC is that they’ve designed it from the ground up to be distro agnostic. Tbf you could install the COSMIC packages and plugins on any GNOME desktop but they were community repackaged iirc
You don’t need the laptop to run it, and I have unfortunately only had negative experiences with System76 laptops. I’d stick to the classic ThinkPads or maybe something like Tuxedo; the latter if you’re based in Europe.
This looks great! Looking forward to the official release. I’m also excited for Pop!_OS 24.04.
This is awesome! Looks like it’s time to load a newVM and play! Can’t wait for when it hits production ready.
