Men need to step up and talk about their problems. Talk to your friends, go to therapy
- 2 months
Depression is the worst sort of trap because the disease prevents you from seeking the cure. Men have fewer friends, fewer relationships, weaker social support networks, and a greater social stigma against seeking help.
Very recently I’ve read at least 2 posts on Lemmy by men who opened up about a nerdy interest and about mental illness. Both faced rather severe rejection from their peers.
A lot of this rejection of course comes from other men. But it’s not on an individual man to convince their friends not to reject them for opening up.
So if we take your declaration in that light, what it amounts to saying is that men all need to simultaneously start acting differently than we’ve always acted. But you can say that about a lot of problems in society.

Luckily I’ve never had depression.
The prevailing attitude among men definitely seems to be “Toughen up!” Both for those with mental issues, and those non-proffesional men they open up to.
Yeah, talking about mental health needs to be normalized. But I feel a shift is slowly coming. On Instagram I see male therapist talking about how to work on your relationships, and one of the bigger ones have 3.9 million followers
I know at least two of my male friends that are seeing psychologists at the moment. I’ve also had 4 sessions in December. My wife and I have also had some couples therapy sessions over the last 3 or 4 years. When I talk about couples therapy to my married friends many actually get curious about it. I compare it to getting your car serviced. You get help fixing minor problems, before they cause bigger issues

Much easier for men to blame women than acknowledge that patriarchy is bad for them too

Women are not necessarily the cause of men’s issues. I don’t see how soldiers with PTSD or untreated mental issues are women’s to solve.
A lot of issues are self-inflicted, men tend to think problems go away if you ignore them, or even worse, are oblivious to the problems. Especially in relationships. Luckily talking about mental load is becoming more common, and the smarter men, who were oblivious to that issue are stepping up. Relationships take work, also for men. If us men aren’t doing our part, I can easily see why women choose to leave.

Men are just more successful.

Globally, death by suicide occurred about 1.8 times more often among men than among women in 2008, and 1.7 times in 2015.[5][6][7] In the Western world, men die by suicide three to four times more often than do women.[5][8] This greater male frequency is increased in those over the age of 65.[9] Suicide attempts are between two and four times more frequent among women.[10][11][12]

You’re going too far with your labels on me and what I post. I’m not a damn bot! The top mods know me. It seems difficult for people to imagine that I’m just really engaged.
