This is probably not the right place to write this but I’m not sure if it’s just me so I thought I could ask

I’m not going over details on what I did recently because I don’t feel confortable talking about it and it’s way too vulgar but yeah I keep getting meltdowns just because of age verification. Also I have a tendency of cherrypicking every word from other videos like the ones from SomeOrdinaryGamers videos about the subject

  • Not really but it does anguish me to think about it and has forced me to reconsider how I’m going to use the internet going forward. That open access to it can be taken away at any moment and now is the time to start downloading what I can.

We already see certain countries where websites require you to create an account linked to your ID in order to post, or even scroll further than a page down. It can happen here too. Of course, it’s not going to change how I’m going to do my banking or work since anything I do for those is already attached to my real name. But it could be the end of my forum activity and browsing of “unfavorable topics” as I know it.

  • Do you mean meltdown as in agressive or it makes you uncomfortable when asked?

Its not really a factor for me, at the moment anyway. I never get asked for ID when buying a bottle of whatever and I haven’t bothered to give ID for “verification” to anything yet and nothing has changed.

  • Thus far I notice it in steam for games. But that’s just an easy birthday field. Or some pop up on sites.

With trading apps or bank apps, I do have experience with these id verification software. Which isn’t great, but apparently mandatory. Anything else I will refuse to submit id’s

  • 3 hours

    Meltdown? No.

Do I get annoyed because as someone over 30 I still get asked for ID when at the bottlo? Sometimes when I am in a hurry.

    • For a while there, after hitting 50, I was kind of happy they thought I looked so young. 🤔

  • Its bad but to me its just bad event after bad event and I don’t even feel anything looking at them anymore. I really don’t want to give my ID to non government entities. I’ll probably have to leave the internet if that becomes a reality .

My threat model I’m fine with using a government ID to login to my personal accounts. Like I don’t consider this account private my government and isp can get my real ID in an hour no problem.

  • So far, the only time I’m asked about age is a pop up on a porn site. If identify verification becomes a regular thing, I’ll find other sites to visit. If it’s at the OS level, I’ll change my OS.

    • What are you going to do when it’s at the hardware and/or ISP level, and there are no workarounds for it?

  • I didn’t get age verification ever, if I did I just shouldn’t use the site. I do get websites that arbitrarily prevent access if you’re using a VPN which is highly annoying.
