I’ve always assumed the more a brand needs to advertise, the shittier their product is. It’s a rule that holds most accurately to alcohol brands. (Bottom shelf plastic handles of liquor being the exception.)

When I was young and in college I thought I was a Libertarian because it wasn’t big government, and that libertarians were in favor of legalizing weed and gay marriage, basically letting people do what they want without the government regulating it. At the time around 2008ish, the Libertarian party really was leaning hard into that part, while leaving out the whole wanting to privatize everything. I had to get a bit older and more mature to realize that libertarians want to make every tax payer funded program function more like our fucked up healthcare system. Libertarians think that the fire department should be an opt in subscription service like it was in the 1800s. Fucking dipshits the lot of them.

This is a more welcome addition that a stupid AI chatbot slop machine.

But I would still like to see them release Proton Drive for Linux already.

I enjoyed the hell out of that game. My only complaint was that the loot lacked variety, and it was a bit more on rails than what I think of as a proper open world RPG.

I can’t think of any that I wasn’t fully aware of the criticism.

But I did play No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077, and Fallout 76 for hundreds of hours each right at launch and enjoyed every moment without significant issues, despite being fully aware of all the hate being thrown at them at the time.

Yeah, it feels like its all supposed to be there. But without getting any of my actual friends to make an account, its hard to test any of it out. Though the bigger issue right now is that it seems my instance (friendica.world) is down or dead. The list of other instances is also struggling to load for me.

My complaint about Friendica is that it just doesn’t actually seem to do the part of Facebook that I actually want. At least not very well. I don’t want to see news, current events, memes and crap in that feed. I want to see posts and pictures from IRL friends, life updates, event organization, interest groups, etc. With privacy settings so only actual friends you want see the posts.

In its current state Friendica seems to just be a skin over mastodon, with some alpha stage friend features.

I’ve often thought about the idea that there is really no such thing as true altruisim. Because no matter what, you feel good about doing good. Even if you don’t tell anyone about the good thing you did, you still get a good feeling from it, therefore there is some inherent selfishness involved no matter what.

Of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. People should absolutely being doing good things and get to feel good about it.
