I don’t understand your position here. If we went back to a more reasonable 7 or 14 year copyright term, how would that obviate the need for a license like the GPL, which permits instant use of code provided you share-alike? Those shorter copyright lengths would be pretty reasonable for books or movies, but would still suck for tech.

Copyright is what makes the GPL license enforceable.

It’s pretty clear datahoarder isn’t a piracy community.
If you check the community’s bio, I’m pretty sure it’s not the place for this kind of “stuff.” Upvotes don’t mean you’re doing it right, since posts get aggregated beyond the actual members of a community.

A more charitable possibility: there could have been an honest four-year cycle of design explorations and presentations of options, revisions… none of which will never see the light of day thanks to internal politics, and the company just non-deciding on a safe option.
They’re insecure about it. I feel sad for them.
