  • Technically, the Raster Operations Pipeline is the entire process of actually rendering a frame, or, contextually and depending on what precise terminology is being used by what company for which architecture, it may only refer to the final stages of actually rendering the frame.

Raster Operations Pipeline is the process, the systematized flow of different stages of rendering, the verb or action that the physical Raster Output Processors actually perform. EDIT: Or perform a part of, a stage of.

In this case, the Raster Operations Pipeline is hampered by the GPU missing 8 out of 176 Raster Output Processors.

Ie, its missing an amount of discrete physical components from the GPU board, and thus is less performant at actually rendering the Raster Operations Pipeline.

Nvidia is … pretty much very obviously at this point going out of its way to make the terminogy around its GPUs as confusing as possible, so that they can more easily do the equivalent of Star Trek esque technobabble to waive away and dismiss anyone who tries to actually dive in and understand what they’re actually doing.

  • Basically, the ROPs are in charge of the final stage of rendering a frame.

They are discrete, physical components of the GPU.

GPUs at this point are quite complex boards of many specialized kinds of processors passing information to and from each other.

Tensor cores, RT cores, CUDA cores, ROPs, etc… these are all specialized processors, specializing in different kinds of computations.

ROPs, Raster Output Processors, do varying kinds of postprocessing on the almost final stage of a rendered frame, assemble the data from other parts of the GPU and then push the finalized, rastered pixels to the frame buffer.

A rough analogy would that ROPs are in charge of the final editing pass on a paper or article before it’s published, with the analagous ‘research’, ‘fact verifying’, and ‘rough draft’ having already been done by other parts of the GPU first.

Maybe another analogy would be that ROPs are the ‘final assembly’ of a frame, if constructing a frame was like building a car or aircraft.

A simpler, more literal explanation is that the ROPs perform the final stage of rendering a frame before the GPU actually pushes it out for you to see.

So… if the GPU is missing 8 ROPs… the GPU is basically bottlenecking itself, internally.

  • I mean… probably yes, but in the case of much of the Torah, the mythical characters and stories first appear textually in Sumerian cuneiform.

The Sumerian culture and written language (cuneiform) was located basically in modern Iraq, near the Tigris and Euphrates. The written language and stories can be dated to about 3000 BC, the actual culture itself, even further.

Then you can trace the evolution of the mythic/legendary characters and stories into the Ugartitic texts, located in Ugarit, modern day Syria, dated to about 1200 BC, with the Ugaritic written language itself being an evolution of Sumerian cuneiform.

The Torah itself, in early Hebrew, wasn’t actually written and compiled as such untill roughly 400 BC, despite the tradtitional insistance it is many hundreds of of years older, and is largely based off of the Ugaritic texts.

If you look at the actual archaelogical and linguistic history of peoples, languages, texts and stories, its quite clear that the ultimate origin of many of the characters and stories in the Torah is Sumeria. Those stories then migrated and mutated as they spread from Sumeria to Canaan, where the Hebrews and Israel/Judah later arose.

  • I’d say a ‘reality check’ is not always negative.

Say you’re very, very self conscious in public, always nervous about how others percieve you.

But then, one day, a friend pulls you aside and ‘reality checks’ you with:

“Look, in 90% of situations you’ll ever be in, if you can follow a few basic dress and behavioral rules, you’ll be fine. Barring situations where the whole idea is you making a good first impression… most people, most of the time, in most situations… really don’t care that much.”

Things like that are arguably ‘positive’ reality checks.

The reason why ‘reality check’ is often connotated negatively is because most of the time, cognitive dissonance develops as a way of excusing or justifying harmful or irresponsible behavior or inaction, all things that mean you are living in a mild to serious delusion which can no longer be maintained, and will require a lot more effort to grapple with.

But it can be the case that reality is in someway better than it is perceived by someone who is overly critical or peasimistic in some way.

In some sense, the initial realization that you’ve been incorrect about something is negative in that you may be embarassed about being wrong in the past, but if it actually means a more realistic outlook going forward, which is actually less troublesome, easier to exist with/in, then I’d say thats overall a ‘positive’ reality check.

Top vs Bottom and Dom vs Sub have always (ok, since the 70s at least) been somewhat conflated between who is literally physically above or below during sex, who is the more vigorous and active and penetrative during sex and who is less active and more receptive, and who is in mental control over the whole situation and who is following orders.

Switch has also ‘always’ (since the 70s/80s) been conflated between all of these, to mean a person that’s comfortable with any role along those 3 axes I just outlined… but there has always been a lack of specificity if it actually applies to all 3 axes, or just 2, or only 1.

This is why more specific terms have arisen to be more precise:

A ‘Power Bottom’ or someone who ‘Tops from the Bottom’ is the mentally dominant one, doing the active penetrating, but is physically under the other person.

A ‘Service Top’ is the mentally submissive one, who carries out the physically vigorous acts the mentally dominant one orders them to, but is usually physically above them, or forceful with them.

There are many female dommes/dominatrixes who basically demand their partners be ‘Service Tops’, but there are also many that are more physically active and penetrative.

There are many more terms that are even more niche or localized… its always useful to ask for more explicit clarification, as there has been and still exists an ambiguity with many of these terms… different people use them to mean different things, and then get quite surprised when they find out their partner doesn’t understand a word to have the meaning they intended.

Finally, ‘vers’ isn’t actually really new.

‘Versatile’ is the even older term for a Switch, that arose in amongst primarily gay men in the 70s… Switch just basically replaced it overtime, and now apparently we are switching (lol) to a concatenation of Versatile: ‘vers’.

  • A lot of the repurposed stories in the Torah do not have prehistoric origins, as that would mean they have no written predecessor, they have origins that are historic, documented in writings that have been dated by archaelogists and ancient linguistic specialists.

The story of Noachian Flood, and many other elements of stories in Genesis, have been directly connected to much older Sumerian/Akkadian mythology, which predates the Canaanite/Hebrew/Israeli mythology.

Noah’s flood is a rewritten version of the Gilgamesh flood myth, with Utnapishtim as the sole survivor of a massive flood, who builds a giant wooden ark, puts his family and a bunch of animals on it, sends out birds to check if the flood is over, then goes on to restart civilization after the boat comes to rest on top of a mountain.

  • Yahweh evolved out of existing Canaanite polytheism.

El was the highest god of this pantheon, Ashera was his wife/consort and chief goddess, Ba’al was their child, god of storms and fertility, amongst others gods like Anat and Astarte.

The first five books of the Old Testament, the Torah, mostly switches between referring to ‘God’ as El, and ‘The Lord’, Adonai, Elohim, which is actually plural and means ‘The Gods’, and YHWH.

Adonai was originally a title given to Ba’al.

Yahwism basically started as a cult, in Canaan, that amalgomated Ba’al and El together into a single God, originally referenced Ashera but then wrote her out of the religion, and then just smashed many of the stories about or involving El and Ba’al together, causing the incongruous naming scheme and duplicatative, often directly adjacent, stories in the hebrew Torah, which are largely the same general plot, but have inconsistent details.

This is why Yahweh is jealous and demands destruction of idols to his predecessors in Canaan, and seems to acknowledge that other gods do actually exist, but he is the best and most powerful.

This is why you get Exodus 6:3

    https://biblehub.com/exodus/6-3.htm

Where God basically retcons his name. You see I used to go by El, but now my name is Yahweh!

Its integral to establishing the mythic history that Yahweh and his flock are actually not from Canaan, they’re escapees from Egypt, and Yahweh promised them Canaan…

While in reality, the Exodus story is completely impossible as described (would have been something like 2-3 million people leaving Egypt, at a point in history where that was comparable.to the total population of lower Egypt), there is 0 archaeological evidence for anything like that ever occuring… but having a unifying myth is useful for justifying conquering some of your small neighboring Canaanites, even if the stories about thag are also largely mythic and exagerated.

Something somewhat analagous seems to have happened something like 600-700 years earlier in Egypt, when Akhenaten decided that actually, Aten was the best and only important god, that the others had died or grown weak.

This attempt at either monotheism or monolatrism didn’t work out so well, it was so unpopular that shortly after Akhenaten’s death, polytheism was reinstated, Akhenaten’s name was removed from official historical records, his monuments were destroyed, and the dynasty that came after him reffered to him as ‘the enemy’ or ‘the criminal’.

  • Recent studies have it at closer to 92% ‘junk’ DNA, and 8% actively coding.

Also, a lot of non-coding DNA does actually serve other useful functions, it just doesn’t actively code.

It could play a role in epigenetics, ie the regulation of what active coding sequences are active and when, it could be telomeres that prevent DNA strands from unravelling at the ends, it could be binding and scaffold sites that assist in the structural stability and integrity of the chromosome.

DNA can be functional, without being active-coding.

Only regions that are both non coding and also totally non functional are truly ‘junk’, but we keep consistently finding more ways that ‘non functional’ regions are actually functional.

  • Life is a process of systems within (and outside of) an entity interacting consistently with each other.

Why would a static screenshot of exact chemical composition matter for any process that involves a moving or animated body?

A bricked computer with a corrupt boot loader is chemically the same as one that actually works.

A car is chemically the same before and after you turn the key on its ignition.

A lightbulb is comprised of the same substances whether or not its turned on or off.

… Part of the difference between an alive and a dead body, is that the chemical reactions that constitute animating the thing into being alive … have stopped.

A dead body is not metabolizing. It has no brain activity. The chemical reactions required to keep its heart beating are no longer happening.

    Decomposition then sets in.

These are all differences in chemical processes.

  • What the red spots indicate is that those areas have housing markets that are very hostile to would be home buyers.

… So, many of them leave, and look to buy a home in a blue area, where home buyers have more leverage in price negotiations, as well as generally lower price per sq ft.

Red does not indicate number of houses bought/sold, in absolute terms, nor in terms of total housing inventory, nor area population.

Californians objectively are leaving California, with huge amounts of money, to states with lower prices homes and goods and services, and functionally doing an interstate version of gentrifying small and medium sized towns and cities outside of California, driving up costs, making everything worse for locals.

This is happening, and they’re not wrong to complain about that.

They are abysmal at figuring out ways to actually solve or mitigate this problem, but they’re not wrong to correctly identify at least one actual cause, though there are many other causes as well.

  • This doesn’t indicate ‘where people want to buy houses’.

Red indicates areas that have large numbers of interested buyers per unit, low supply levels, low time on market, some combination of that, which indicates that sellers have the ability to set the price in negotiations.

Blue indicates areas that have low numbers of interested buyers per unit, high supply levels, high time on market, some combination of that, which indicates buyers have more power in price negotiations.

The sizes of the circles only indicate the population of the area, not unsold home supply, not home sales in a given period, just the population of that area.

    EDIT:

‘Where people want to buy houses’ would be… maybe approximated by number of pending sales or sales entertaining active bids, divided by the overall area population, or overall homes on market.

Or just polling people per location and asking them ‘do you want to buy a home here?’.

EDIT 2: I randomly watched an interview on youtube that actually explained this and a bunch of other more up to date info, earlier today.

Basically, the housing bubble in many areas may finally actually be starting to let out some air… sales are extremely low, inventory is extremely high, time on market is extremely high, and sellers are actually starting to cut prices to try to find buyers.

    EDIT 3:

Also worth mentioning OPs image shows Dec 2024 data.

Jan 25 data is almost certainly already compiled and available to people in the industry by now, if it isn’t available publically … pretty sure the video i linked has such.
