I need to get some Meshtastic modules…
I doubt it was the innovation that made Atlassian buy the service, but the technology itself, they were interested in using that technology themselves and it was easier to just buy the tech rather than develop it in house.
Yeah, I don’t buy the argument that Försvarsmakten makes that they should use signal because most people already have it.
Ok, this is for unclassified comms over phone, but to me it seems dumb to use the same app I use to talk with my friends about last night’s party to talk with my unit about (unclassified) military stuff.
Försvarsmakten could easily spin up a distributed Matrix instance, and order all personel to use that for military stuff.
I hope that this is just a stopgap order while they get a properly secured self-hosted solution.
I am actually a bit confused here…
This seems like something Försvarsmakten should be able to set up their own Matrix infrastructure to use.
Was that never considered?
Why make yourself dependant on a foreign company’s servers at all?
So this is the Land Warrior concept that keeps going?
Part of me is annoyed that I didn’t get a Mazda 3 when I got my car back in 2023, I got a 2021 Seat Leon FR PHEV Hatchback.
I like the Leon, but it has so much touch controls.
The worst is the controls for the fog lights, heated rear window and defrost.
They are all located on a small touch panel to the right of the steering wheel, it is also angled down making it harder to see.
So if I am driving and the windows start to fog up I need to take my eyes off the road and aim my finger to touch the correct button without touching any other controls as I might be blinding other drivers.
It is a terrible design.
The AC and battery management screens are all under different submenus on the infotainment screen.
The rest of the car is great though, and so far i have not seen any ads on the screen.
I mean an island with no internet connection isn’t that expensive to him
Since you have the equipment at home you can just get a power meter and measure the computer and a router to see which uses most power over two hours.
Make sure to install the baseline for the computer before the test so it is fairly representative
I get that, it was just something I noticed when looking to build a NAS a few months ago, I was considering the power usage over time when compared with a Synology, and I seem to recall the Synology being much more power efficient, and when I saw OP talking about using a full X86 machine for an AP, I just thought it sounded very inefficient.
Before you start with this project, consider the power use of a full X86 system even at idle and compare that to a standard router.
If you are looking to run this as an access point permanently, the cost of power may add up.
I am not saying that you shouldn’t do it, but take it into account before deciding.
I didn’t realize that, and YT didn’t tell me.
Talk about hyperbole…
Google Maps is over!
No, the integration in the search results when searching the web might be gone, but you can still go to https://maps.google.com/ and find what you need.
This is not a significant shift with how we are interacting with Google, it is a minor change.
Calm down.
Tell me that the entity overseeing this infrastructure replied with “lol no”
Thank you for the explanation!
