• You’ll probably want to keep 20% of your drive free for performance reasons, honestly. So if you need anything else on there, make it small.

Keep that space free so the disk can work properly… Unless you want it to fail and buy at current prices.

  • 20 days

For best performance and longevity of the drive, leave some space free. At least having 10gb free would be good idea. Why not delete some games you are currently not playing? I mean its not like you are playing 50 games at the same time right now. What’s the point of filling the space completely out?

      • 19 days

Well I explained it. You can do whatever you want, I just explained that leaving space is good advice. If drives do not have enough space to operate the data freely, that will cause the drive to fail quicker. And deleting a game would make sure you have plenty of space left for the operating system and drive to operate in a safe and optimal way. This will ensure the performance stays good and that the drive does not wear down as quickly. That’s why it’s a problem.

        • You have no idea how much space im leaving beyond the 20gb i r reserved for last. Chill out.

          • 19 days

Calm down, I’m not trying to hurt you or being toxic in any way. I just tried to help you not to shoot in your foot. And yes, I have no idea what you are actually doing, that’s why was giving the advice. If that information was in the post, then I would know its alright.

Now imagine you would not know that and would not have reserved additional space. How do I know this? If no one mentioned this (to help you mind you) then you might would lose your drive. Trust me, losing drives with data you want to keep on it is really bad, I have gone through this multiple times since I use computers. So don’t get mad at people trying to help you and giving you advice. If you have that space, then everything is fine.

            • I have 10-20gb of playspace on my Steam Deck.

Play space. Not space left. These save space comments are annoying when that is not what this thread is about.

              • 19 days

Which still does not say how much space you would have left after filling that space out. As said, I rather give you the advice if its not very clear from the post, instead leaving your drive rotting and losing your data. Again. We are giving you advice so you don’t lose your drive and data, not trying to hurt you. I find your replies annoying too, yet decide to clear things up.

                • No shit it doesn’t say. Hence, you dont know. I dont need your advice, jesus. You and ten other people all repeating yourselves is annoying af. Not personally, but all together.

I got it. Space. Learned it decades ago. Chill out hombres let a man ask for game suggestions in peace

              • 19 days

Not everybody knows you shouldn’t fill up your hard drive completely. If someone doesn’t explicitly mention it, its safer to assume they don’t know so that you don’t accidentally give them advice that harms their drive. And no, saying play space instead of space (especially when your title just says 20 gb left) does not count as explicitly mentioning it. You never mention having room to spare or even knowing the difference.

It’s clear now that you probably do, so all you needed to do was say “don’t worry I know” or even just ignore the advice entirely. I don’t know why you’re being annoyed by people for not having the info you failed to provide them.

  • Please do NOT fill that space!

Any kind of flash/SSD storage requires free space to do wear leveling and disk management. If you fill one of these disks completely, they will wear out very quickly and then you are left with a broken console in need of an SSD replacement.

You should leave at least 20GB free, also so that there’s space to download update files.

        • I have 10-20gb of playspace on my Steam Deck.

          First sentence.
Please leave if you’re going to be toxic

Don’t be silly, I’m pointing out why people are responding to you the way we do. You can accept that you too aren’t a perfect communicator or continue being confused why people are “mean”.

  • Starsector.

I see you like space games and Rimworld, so I suspect you will love Starsector.

  • ROMs are your best bet for more play with less storage required. Older games are insanely small by today’s standard, often coming in at under a single 600MB disc in size, but console games blow even that out of the water. N64 games are tens of megs, while earlier platforms are only a couple of megs a piece.

PlayStation games are all around that 6-700MB per disc and some games are multiple discs, but that is still way less than the size of modern games. Also a lot of them can play fairly well from a high compression format like 7z, so you can store then compressed.

Also, some games that are older have newer open source engines which can really breathe new life into them. My first example would be OpenMW for Morrowind, but DevilutionX is another great example. Trying to get Diablo running in modern hardware is entirely possible, but the resolution is very limited and it is super clunky. DevilutionX has more options and it is a much more enjoyable experience.

Also, Creeper World 3. I have put 50 full days of my life into that game and regret nothing.

  • Sparklite is 1.5GB and was on sale for $3 when I dropped it in the other thread.

Winter Burrow is excellent as well. But it is 10GB. There is a free demo though!

I see you have Satisfactory. You could put Factorio on it and still have 10-20gb of play space. It has controller support but I haven’t tried it on controller

  • Uhhh, leave that space until there’s something you want?

Like next month when a new game comes out that you want you won’t have space for it. Or like when the summer sale hits and you pick up a few old games. You’ll have to delete something to make space.

You said people ask what games you play, and then you posted a list of your installed games. Have you played them all? Which games did you like the most?

  • Oxygen Not Included is a great colony-builder, personally I like it a bit more than rimworld but also that’s because I played it first.

Also maybe Kerbal Space Program and Stormworks if you like vehicle building. Stormworks has a bit of a learning brick wall but it is fun. It’s marketed as more of a search and rescue kind of game, and there is some fun that can be had doing that but it’s mostly a vehicle builder.

  • Brooo, Kenshi alone would have me entertained for DAYS. I wouldn’t have any need for so many games on my deck.

  • 19 days

Why do you even keep so many games installed? Do you really play all of that?

      • 19 days

Try path of achra if you are into classic turn-based roguelike, this been my commute game for quite a while.

  • Will suggest Star of Providence or Kill the Crows, and not responding when you don’t like someone’s comment. People are just tiresome at times, you can’t harsh it out of em.
