“The release will hit PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as per usual, and now we’re also adding PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 to the roster. Of course there will be full crossplay between all the platforms, so that you can play with your friends.”

if you don’t have it already I highly recommend, probably one of the best survival crafters out there
I’ve played through the existing content probably four times as they released environments, I love this game so much and I hope you do too!

Yas! I’ve been watching the progress of Valheim and hoping it would go 1.0 before I invested too much time into it! This year, I’m going to be eating good with a wide selection of games to play.
- 16 days
God, I can’t agree more. These last few shows have had suuuuuch a good selection of games.
- 16 days
For me, I am talking mostly about the games that I already have bought while they were in early access and waited for them to mature! Fields of Mistria, Palworld, now Valheim too! As for the other new releases that are to be released, those I haven’t decided fully on them yet. Clockwork Revolution, Metro 2039, and Magicians: The Devil’s Deal also I find to be those with potential. Beyond that, there is not particularly much for me to be excited about, but that is just me. Not every game is going to be my cuppa, and that is also alright.

If you tried Going Medieval before it went to 1.0, it had its full release a couple months ago.
They’re still adding stuff to it too.
- 16 days
I’m still uncertain about that game…It’s one that I prefer watching others play rather than playing myself. It’s not a bad game persay, just one that doesn’t speak to me specifically.
- Zahille7@lemmy.worldEnglish16 days
That’s fair. I’ve heard it equated to Rimworld which I’ve never played, but I love the different details. And I love building castles.
- 16 days
I very much love Rimworld and get on with that pretty well…There is something about Going Medieval that doesn’t speak to me and I can’t tell you why. Confusing, as it does have those Rimworld aesthetics and style, yet there is something different about it.

I do sort of wonder if they were purposefully waiting to release 1.0 when they could drop on other consoles. I have Valheim on Steam and it feels like the game stagnated in EA for a while.
Maybe stagnated is the wrong term, it just feels like the game overstayed its welcome as an Early Access title. Like it could have and should have released earlier but was intentionally kept in EA for some reason.
- Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.netEnglish16 days
It had so much hype when it was announced.
Yea, it’s weird seeing the 1.0 announcement. Like cool but my hype for this game died a long time ago.

16 daysIt was the perfect game for us during the pandemic when we couldn’t easily see each other. I think some of its allure was lost after that.
- PumaStoleMyBluff@lemmy.worldEnglish15 days
I think it helps that they had a relatively clear road map for 1.0. All the biomes, including Deep North, have spawned on the map since EA launch, and they simply wanted to populate them with content for 1.0.
- VitoRobles@lemmy.todayEnglish13 days
Bought it during COVID and it was AMAZING, even with just three biomes. But Im exhausted.
The updates weren’t as impressive. Yes, there was a lot of new stuff. But they took a long time. A really long time. And it didn’t feel like they improved on a lot of things, rather than expand on it.
After months after Valheim was released (in early access) V Rising and a bunch of other games also came out (also in early access).
Many of them shipped a 1.0 already, and improved on their early access version greatly.
Heck, Even games inspired by Valheim are nearing the finish line and have better features. Enshrouded is already light-years ahead.

14 daysIt definitely was unfinished, and felt like it, for most of its life. They just took forever to update stuff and lost the mindshare it had in the endless sea of survival crafting games. It’s been 5 years and they are finally finishing the last zone.

Yooooooo I remember back when this game was going viral and we talked about how empty the deep north was, damn I really gotta play this again I loved it
- Zahille7@lemmy.worldEnglish16 days
I kinda liked how empty and barren the deep north was at the beginning. It felt truly lifeless, like the fimbulwinter thing from Witcher 3.

16 daysI wonder if it will come with more control over spawns. The greydwarf spam is so, so, so annoying.
- Screen_Shatter@lemmy.worldEnglish16 days
Just put workbenches down, spawning is prevented wherever they are. You can bury them under floors, make walls arpund your base, put spikes up, make a trench, or all of the above.
- zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish15 days
I never bothered with this trick until Ashlands where you really need help taming the spawns.
barkingspiders@infosec.pubEnglish
16 daysI love this game so much but after several playthroughs I now turn off the raids, I think they’re the worst mechanic in the game
- Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.netEnglish16 days
They are fun when you have a good number of people playing on a server to actually build a sizable base with defenses.
Playing solo or with a small group they’re incredibly annoying.
- zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish15 days
By the time you are done with the swamp, greydwarves are so trivial it stops mattering and its just free resources. I was a bit sad when they patched out the greydwarf farming though.
- Strider@lemmy.worldEnglish15 days
I loved valheim but Ashlands was so punishingly hard we gave up, was that ever changed so it makes sense to return?
- zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish15 days
I definitely makes sense to return, but as far as I know they didn’t nerf it much like they did Mistlands other than to tame down the crazy spawn rate a bit (which was all it really needed).
My friend and I started over about 6 months ago and played through everything and Ashlands felt a lot easier going into it knowing what to expect and what to aim for. Once you get the gear for the biome it gets a lot easier as well as you can imagine, though maxed out Mistlands gears is fine too.
- Strider@lemmy.worldEnglish15 days
Thanks!
Mistlands wasn’t our favorite but certainly doable. We started Ashlands as soon as it was out.
Might be worth a look then.
