Cake day: July 15th, 2025

I don’t care about my job anymore: my boss bores me and constantly tries manipulating me so I work more for the same money, half of my coworkers are morons (the other half are fine), clients are demanding and entitled asses. All I think of is excuses not to work, but I don’t have enough stamina to quit and find something else. It’s like I’m the main character in office space.

Sometimes I think I should be fired because that would force me to snap out of it and find something I might enjoy, but every job is going to be sh*t like the one I have now. I’m following the path of least resistance.

I work because I need money but I’ve decided I’m gonna half ass it as much as I can and call in sick as much as I can because what’s the effing point? I’m gonna get paid anyways and nothing ever changes: my boss is not going to get rid of his gang of favorites, is always going to believe them over those who want to keep the distance, they’re going to get away working less because the boss likes them and I’m the asshole working more for the same money.

Another question: If your work includes dealing with the public, have you noticed how they’re increasingly demanding? I don’t know if I’m the only one feeling like this. It’s like spring brings out the stupid side of people.

Example here

some examples include just too good views of the ‘thief’ from several angles, cars positioned suspiciously well so you can see how the paint covers the whole vehicle when the device explodes, the supposed thieves not dropping the packages when they explode, ‘thieves’ reacting the same way (oh my god, are you kidding me?, gross…).

If the paint is going to cover your own porch upon explosion you’re obviously using a paint easy to get rid of.

Even though, seems to be much work for uncertain gain, but maybe I’m wrong?

The second part of the video seems to be real though: all those thieves angrily yelling to the people they just tried stealing from, calling the police, yelling they’re going to sue, the mother stealing with her son… does it look genuine to you?

The only ones I believe are genuine are the ones with cops on them.

My employer sent me to Germany, where he subsidizes 50% of my public transportation costs, the so called Deutschland-Job-Ticket.

However, my employer only signed a deal wit the local transportation authority for digital tickets, the kind of ticket you’d store on a digital wallet like fosswallet.

Except that the local transportation authority doesn’t offer pkpass files to download, the kind of file you need to work with fosswallet and similar apps, and the only way to use this digital card is to create a google account and download google wallet. I have no idea what an apple user would have to do, as they won’t offer pkpass files to no one.

Google is a company I don’t trust, but so far every German I’ve talked to about this doesn’t seem to value privacy ¯(ツ)

I’m looking for a workable, practical solution because as much as I’d like to show google the finger it seems that’s simply not an option here.

Some suggested to get a second android device to use exclusively for this Deutschland-Job-Ticket, but that seems overkill.

I also contacted my employer to ask if they’d allow me have a physical transportation card and still receive their subsidy.

And yet another option would be to buy a pixel, install GrapheneOS, download googlewallet and sandbox it, but I’m not sure I want to spend 700 Euros to make google even richer. Has any of you ever done this? does it work?

The other end of the equation is, how much information google grabs about me in the EU because if I go GrapheneOS, I still need to give google my data. I’ve never had a google account:

Do I need to give them my real name? A telephone number? my real address? An Email address? my social security number? passport? Will they send me unwanted ads and spam me if I create an account with them?

All this because my employer or the transportation authority won’t work with pkpass files…

obligatory I know this is not a linux question, but you provide good information and alternatives

qr code is the squares code that, if used with a qr code scanner redirects me automatically to a website or to download a pkpass file, right?

after downloading said pkpass file to my android, any wallet application like fosswallet should recognize it and add it to the local library (on my android device), right?

what other formats do transportation authorities use?

To those residing in Germany, is pkpass use widespread there? What are common formats used there?

I know android is minimally related to linux and the question doesn’t resemble a typical question for a linux forum but each time I’ve asked here you’ve provided valuable information:

I now reside in Germany and my current employer pays 50% of this so called Deutschland-Job-Ticket. There is no physical card but travel information you download to an android wallet, but apparently google wallet is the only available option. See the picture:

Google is a company I don’t trust with my data, neither do I expect your regular public transportation authority employee to care about his privacy (he looked at me as I was asking if 2 + 2 equal 4). I am not aware of non google based wallets where I can download the travel information.

I tried some f-droid and droidify options but it turns out they’re pure crap.

The site: https://abo.ride-ticketing.de/app/ I log in with my username and password, get my travel information and on the bottom the picture I uploaded.

Any workarounds?

This being Germany, shouldn’t there be an alternative to those who refuse google? Don’t I have that right as a consumer?

Another question: I screenshot my logged in session on the link I provided where you see my qr code and my billing data. The public transportation employee told me that’s not allowed (wtf?). Can anyone here provide a rationale?
