FBI uses facial recognition technology, online photos to identify and arrest ICE Portland protester The criminal complaint lists a pink gas mask and a forearm tattoo as distinct clues that led investigators to use third-party software to help make an arrest.

“Technology has transformed the act of being in public,” Crump said. “People who engage in political protests need to understand that it’s very difficult to do that anonymously.”

Since June, 23 people have been arrested on charges connected to ICE protests in Southeast Portland.

      It’s pretty simple.

When your society values freedom and thinks it lacks it, and movies like “Blade Runner”, “Robocop”, “Total Recall” are popular, - then it has freedom.

When your society values freedom (in words) and thinks it definitely has it, and movies like those are considered funny, gross and stupid rebellion against authority, or at least not how it literally just is, while we now know better, - then it gets ass-raped.

A-and if many people were using their brains to evaluate Google and Facebook, we wouldn’t have reached this stage because parallels are very easy to draw and such systems were the main threat of plenty of sci-fi.

A lot of the problems we have now seem to be due to people in Western democracies becoming complacent and taking their rights for granted. Fascism has surged so rapidly in part because people complacently treated it as some kind of aberration that could only happen in the first half of the 20th century, and assumed “we’re better than that now.”

Always wear non-descript long-sleeve black shirts. Loose fitting and easily moved in black pants. Non-descript black face-mask. Non-descript black safety sunglasses. Non-descript black gloves. Make sure tattoos or other identifying marks are covered. Never take off your mask. If you can, the best option is to thrift these options and buy them with cash.

Buy 10 rubber masks that resemble your own face. Wear one, sometimes. Make sure all your friends know that! Sell the other 9 pieces somewhere, anonymously.

Then you can say: their evidence is worthless, because that camera has never seen my real face. You can never know if it was me.

Watch them try to prove anything ;-)

Yes, the Nazis were revered for the comprehensive trials that occured before shipping any Jew off to a concentration camp.

“Technology has transformed the act of being in public,” in fact it instills fears of reprisal by participating in a manifestation, which leads to less people manifesting against problems, which leads to more freedom of those in power to do as they will…

Nobody gonna mention that he was throwing rocks and nailed a pig in the face? Nobody? This is not some harmless protestor. This guy directly assaulted a cop. Don’t know what you expect them to do.

I don’t gotta problem with it, but his actions were illegal as hell. Before anyone says it, no, they wouldn’t deploy this tech if you or I were the victim. But you can hardly blame the state for protecting their own.
