3 monthsYea, some voiced consonants like L, M, N, R and maybe Y would work fine for singing, I think. Like if we only had words like “Hm”, or “Lt” (pronounced similar to “ult”), you could sing it fine.
I mean those are already halfway to vowels. In Japanese, “N” can be its own syllable.

well - Wikipedia seems to disagree, and says “common definitions include “the utterance of words or sounds in tuneful succession””
and that was just the first place i looked.
30 years ago my music teacher told me that in Chinese-language singing it’s the consonants that are sustained.

And also vowel (open-mouth) sounds. They just hold consonant sounds like English singers holds vowel sounds.
