I wanted an Xbox one so i could play the newer Forza Motorsport series( seems like most people say Forza 6 is the best all around), but it also seems as if the xbox one was on life support by Microsoft since they had to make the Xbox One X with 4k and HDR just to keep up with Playstation and i hear the newer Xbox’s aren’t much more reliable than the older consoles and still suffer from hardware failures.
Is it worth it to get an Xbox one X for around $120-160, or is the series X more reliable and so much better it’s worth twice the price.
I will mainly use it as a 4k player for my DVD’s and blu ray collection for upscaling and it appears to do a good job at this. Maybe get a couple FPS games as well.
Do you think it’s really worth it to splurge on the Series X if i’m not really playing many games on it?
I have researched these questions online, but always like talking to people on lemmy, so if you have other suggestions, lemme know!

After doing tons of research on reparability, I realized Microsoft has ruined the right to repair on the Series S/X consoles with a 1GB partition in XBFS format that no OS can read and has a hardware encryption key in that partition.
All SSD’s fail, and all the Series S/X consoles use WD NVME SSD’s that WILL fail. You cannot just swap hard drives without cloning the original, but if the original isn’t readable, then your console is bricked permanently. The Xbox one consoles don’t have this partition and you can install a new HDD or SSD and just reinstall the OS1, OS2, or OS3 on it and it will work just like before.
This explains why i see at least 4 or 5 broken xbox series X for every 10 working ones i come across. This has removed the possibility of me ever purchasing a xbox series X until a modder or someone can figure out a way around this.
