note: this post isnt a ragebait im serious this did happen.
just cause it happened doesn’t make it not ragebait. posting “linux is garbage” to a linux forum, when your problem wasn’t even really a linux problem is very much rage bait.
This ice cream shop is trash! Because I took a chocolate and cream cone and ran away without paying, and when I was outside I tripped over my shoelace and my ice cone ended up in a puddle where a dog was pissing. 0/10 would never go that shop again.
It honestly reads like this 🤣

it is i agree. but why does it even need that much skill is the real question
- 5 days
Did you talk to anyone else about how to solve it?
Consult any forums etc.
Linux is community based.
- 5 days
As somebody who transitioned from Windows to Linux for business, I can confirm that Linux community is awesome and insanely helpful.
- workgood@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish5 days
i did see 10 or more reddit threads for this yes none of them worked
- 5 days
So, you didn’t ask anything.
Also, Reddit’s not the whole world, especially when it comes to the Linux community.

You are seriously complaining that your pirated cracked game is not running on Linux?
Tone it down, adding exaggerated details to your ragebait makes it unbelievable.
- workgood@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish5 days
none of it is exaggerated. yes i am saying a pirated game doesnt work. if linux aims for just legit users then forget ever having userbase from africa, south america. or any place generally poor.

Linux is a kernel that lets software talk to hardware. It doesn’t care about where it’s users are from or what their financial situation is.
This is not Linux’s problem.

So you were using a cracked version of the game? Not surprised you had difficulty
- workgood@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish5 days
on windows it works perfectly. it isnt much to ask for this game to work on linux. knowing those are same game files just stripped of steam drm.
- cmnybo@discuss.tchncs.deEnglish5 days
If you bought the game, all you would have to do is click install and Steam would have done all of the setup for you. If you pirate, then you have to do that work yourself. It’s not particularly difficult, but it takes more than just double clicking on an exe file.

It isn’t much to ask for a game built for one operating system to work perfectly on a completely, fundamentally different operating system, by means of the vastly complex and enormous work of thousands of people, which they donated to the world so that you can access it for free?
- workgood@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish5 days
it isnt much yes. when that os claims perfect working with the same game of steam verison. why does it not work if the drm is stripped?
- 5 days
when that os claims perfect working with the same game of steam verison.
But you aren’t using the steam version, you are using a cracked version…
why does it not work if the drm is stripped?
It would most likely work if you set it up correctly, but of course, you somehow expect it to run by sheer magic… Do you think the person who cracked it/removed drm just got it working by means of magic without any effort?
The only reason why it works on windows is because someone else did the effort for you.
I get some cracked games on Linux by creating a bottle with Fit-Girl. However, you have to configure the bottle correctly from the start; sometimes changing the bottle settings can break things on the bottle itself. It’s not as straightforward as downloading a game from Steam, I’ll admit, but it’s not that difficult either. Obviously, you might run into some issues the first time around, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty simple.

5 daysSorry that Cyberpunk didn’t work for you, that’s understandably frustrating. I hope you get what you want from your return to Windows.
If you ever decide to try Linux again, you might benefit from asking people for assistance before you get so frustrated. I’ve personally played Cyberpunk for hundreds of hours on Linux, so I know it certainly does work. There’s probably something going on with that specific repack you’re using that makes it weird to get running.
- workgood@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish5 days
i searched for many reddit threads for this exact dodi repack and found almost no one got it to work. while it works normally on windows. trust me i did search for help.
- 5 days
Did you tried other version besides Dodi before hand? Like fitG or idk cs.rin version if it exist?
Seems a lot of hassle if you didnt dual boot than trying different version.
But yeah, there’s no “it just works” on Linux fot every person since it’s always case by case basis
I think Bazzite specifically targeted gaming if you wanna try again.

I’ve been playing cyberpunk ages on my Linux pc. Installed and worked first time and plays perfectly. Think it’s just a user error or lack of skill. But enjoy windows anyway, why did you even bother trying Linux? Windows is great for the average user who just wants to turn it on and not think about it.

You’re young and an iPad baby. Not surprised you whine about needing skill
- workgood@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish5 days
im not. i even rooted my phone before and solved the intergity bs. so i can search for stuff and apply it. linux is just that hard
Shimitar@downonthestreet.euEnglish
5 daysIts like putting an Audi engine inside a Ford and complaining that making it run is hard.
Complain with cyberpunk developers that didn’t developed also for Linux, but only for windows instead.
I find it incredible that you can even try to run a windows game on linux.
Try run a native android app on iphone or vice versa…

OP is also complaining because he is trying to pirate the game. The process of stripping the DRM is better documented on Windows than on Linux, and somehow it’s the fault of the Linux ecosystem.

5 daysThere’s lots of people, myself included, that would help you out. The only games I can’t play on my Linux install are games with invasive anti cheat. That goes for steam games, games with their own launchers, and games from DRM free installers like from GoG and…other places. Cyberpunk specifically I have a lot of time in running perfectly across 4 different Linux distros. It can definitely work for you too.
Brother. You tried to run a repack that was likely developed and tested on Windows, and then got pissed when it didn’t work. This is Linux, you downloaded it for free… there is no megacorp surveilling your system and trying to fix every single gaming edge case so that you stay happy while they shove ads in your face.
If you just want gaming and want to stick your head in the sand and stay completely unaware of how your OS works and what it is doing, absolutely stay on Windows. If you have the slightest care about your privacy, desire to learn about how a computer OS works, or are curious about free software, then join us… there are tons of people out there willing to help you.
And I’m sure there is a way to get that repack working… it may just take some research and actually asking questions in the community.
I hope this rant helped you vent your frustration.
Admittedly, “You can game on Linux without issues” is bending the truth. That’s limited to Steam. Outside of Steam games, especially with cracked and modded games, you’re in “might work” and “might need various amounts of fiddling” territory.
That doesn’t mean Linux is trash, it’s an awesome OS, just not the right one for your use case.I would suggest first doing the basics first before diving in and trying to run cracked games I had trouble and had to go through multiple troubleshooting steps to get DODI repacks working on windows even. the difference is there are a ton of resources of people spending hours and hours fixing broken cracked games on windows (dodi Hogwarts legacy has like 100+ threads on reddit with fixes) where Linux just isn’t popular enough yet to have a big community find sizes for your cracked games for you already and the fixes from windows often don’t work.
First try browsers, steam games, streamimg, and light use while dual booting, you can still keep windows for the games that don’t work on Linux.
It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Just take it one step at a time. You are trying to reduce tracking. That is going to be 90% internet browsing, so if you already switch to Linux for that, you are much of the way there.
