I’m pretty sure that’s why they are always saying Zap wears velour since that’s what Kirk wore.
It’s probably why Kirk often looks a little sweaty. Velour and studio lights.

Straight answer: He trusted his crew to do their jobs and then let them do it. Listened to advice but was not hesitant when a decision needed to be made.

I’d say he was an effective leader, but ‘good’ is open to debate.
