What about that orbital data center (a.k.a. “Mikoshi”) idea btw? How is that feasible?! Do they want to drop all those shiny valuable RAMs and GPUs into the satellite graveyard when those satellites have worn out? Well, maybe the oceanic life can build new kinds of riffs with it. 🥲
- skozzii@lemmy.caEnglish3 hours
They are going to be really mad because it’s still 2x to 4x what it’s actually worth, it’s gonna drop hard.

Too many people have forgotten that the nazis are the bad guys.
- 5 hours
People also forget that one of the fundamental parts of fascism is thievery. They steal money, gold, art, even ideologies and elections.
- DuncanTheDrunk@lemmy.worldEnglish5 hours
I think many people forget how many Americans were pro-nazi before we entered the war. Not to mention how it was decades before the civil rights movement. I know this isn’t an American site so it doesn’t pertain to everyone, but there seems to be some type of collective amnesia of the values we had not even 100 years ago.
- Talcosis@lemmy.zipEnglish1 hour
I think the assumption was that the shortened window to list it in the NASDAQ 100 in 15 days meant that it would be bouyed by 401k money. I don’t think early investors planned to be able to pump and dump so effectively that US retirement savings as a whole weren’t enough to keep it up.
- stealth_cookies@lemmy.caEnglish6 hours
Because too many people gamble (sorry “invest”) based on vibes and memes these days rather than fundamentals of the business and maintaining a properly diversified stock portfolio with a realistic time horizon.
They don’t understand the concept of a pump and dump, and only see the people bragging about their quick wins rather than the majority that lose.
- Passerby6497@lemmy.worldEnglish9 hours
Oh no, it’s the obvious and inevitable outcome that literally everyone saw coming. Who could have know this would happen??!1?
- brucethemoose@lemmy.worldEnglish9 hours
I dunno why yall are celebrating this.
Elon basically gaslighted retail investors, and managers for your retirement funds, into transferring wealth directly to Elon Musk.
Other index funds were forced to buy SpaceX at the IPO price. They literally had no choice, even if they knew they’d lose money. And this includes any overseas ones with exposure to US indices.
This is not something to celebrate. We all just got conned, even if you didn’t buy SpaceX directly.
- brucethemoose@lemmy.worldEnglish15 minutes
It’s still going to be reflected in certain indexes, and market shifts in general, unfortunately.

8 hoursI pulled my retirement funds from the market over a year ago when the market was clearly detatching from reality. They are in a cash account earning modest interest for now.
I don’t let fools in a stupor play with my money.
- brucethemoose@lemmy.worldEnglish5 hours
Yeah, I mean you’re preaching to the choir here.
I’m in individual stocks (that I think are sane) or assets everywhere I can be.
- BrickEater@lemmy.worldEnglish5 hours
Jokes on you, I nor any of the people I know, have a retirement fund lmao. This will overwhelmingly hit boomers and upper middle class yuppies in corporate jobs, and tbh fuck em both. If you work for a corporation and chose to be a stooge, you’re also part of the problem.
Joelk111@lemmy.worldEnglish
5 hoursThis whole comment screams projection to me. Having a retirement fund is fairly normal, even if you aren’t making the most money in the world.
- UpAndAtThem@lemmy.worldEnglish9 hours
Hey guys don’t worry! It’s not a loss of all your money, just like it wasn’t a full on Nazi salute.

I thought SpaceX was at least on the right track with Starship, but then I read this article talking about how even one trip to the Moon could take up to 20 launches:
- SacralPlexus@lemmy.worldEnglish4 minutes
SpaceX has done some impressive engineering feats but so far the only part of the business that has been profitable is Starlink. More importantly, Elon merged his AI business into Starlink shortly before it went public. I read somewhere that approximately 93% of the value of the IPO was based on the AI side and its wildly speculative projections for future income.
My point is that it almost doesn’t matter what they do with Starship, the company is massively overvalued unless Grok suddenly becomes the most popular AI in the world and everyone begins tithing to it.

9 hoursWhat’s worse for musk - china launched and landed its own reusable rocket. Successfully landed. Spacex only cash cow now have a solid competition from china. Tesla is already losing globally to byd, no reason to believe margins gonna improve there.
- 8 hours
So if we assume they manage to build a fully rapidly reusable rocket and launch infrastructure (the latter of which is incredibly questionable), the only marginal cost increase is just labor to conduct the launches and consumables.
And the physics says more like 17 launches, but at the end of the day, that’s just how much it costs to send 200 tons to the moon, AND bring the rocket back. They’re not jettisoning stages or leaving the rocket behind in the moon like Apollo.
The numbers are mind boggling, and short of nuclear rockets and space elevators, there is literally no way to do this short of many, many, many tiny launches, and it’s way less risky to have those tiny launches refill a tanker in LEO than to send 20 launches to the moon independently. Plus there would be no way to send large pre assembled components like nuclear reactors and construction/manufacturing equipment. Everything would have to be manufactured and assembled on the moon.
- Ensign_Crab@lemmy.worldEnglish14 hours
Awww. Poor fuckwits bought into a nazi-run company.
I’m sorry they didn’t lose more.
- lightnsfw@reddthat.comEnglish9 hours
Yeah that’s what I was thinking too… I’m scared to check my 401k.
- 16 hours
All the analysts at the beginning were shouting that the IPO was overvalued.
Making outrageous promises and failing to deliver is Elon Musk’s brand.
If you have money to invest, and you lost it in SpaceX without doing your due research, I have no sympathy for you.
(I have no money to invest. I was just following SpaceX and Musk’s dubious trillionaire status. He’s still, way, way too rich.)

Il just repost that here…
