  • As a fairly new user to lemmy I have found that the community can be pretty brutal and there are quite a lot of set things that are frowned upon. Windows always gets a lot of abuse, but for me here in the UK the amount of Mac and Linux users is miniscule, for example… yet Windows is frowned upon greatly. Sp whilst not raging, it is deffo anti a fair few things. I know it is to be expected as it is a fairly technical things to use lemmy/piefed/fediverse but it still makes me wince. Like everything these days, the less passionate just don’t post any more so it does bring out some strong responses

  • It depends… the OP is also using yunohost which can and does have some issues with higher port numbers, plus you also have to factor in if he is self hosting as I suspect, some routers also won’t properly forward higher port numbers either. Difficult to say but lowering the port number is one thing to try. Too many variables to really drill down and say what is happening

  • For me and the clients and fwiends I talk to the issue with the fediverse for them is the decentralised nature. Most of them are NOT tech inclined and the suggestion that they would have to choose a server and that choice will influence the experience is a deal breaker - pure and simple. To follow up then if they do join, the sheer lack of numbers baffles them and they quit

  • Not a fan of Amazon in any way shape or form, but for some purchases here in the UK they are simply miles ahead of other firms. Latest purchase by me, though not paid for by me is 2 x batteries for my wifes mobility scooter. 20% cheaper than anywhere else, took 1 week to arrive (not bad, not the best) but was so easy to order without all the hassle other solutions involve. We have a prime account still as there is some streaming stuff we also like to watch. Still (just) more pros than cons
