Blame the manufacturers, not Toy R Us. Companies can’t tell a retailer how much to price something (that’s illegal price fixing), but they can set a suggested list price, and as a general rule, companies do not sell above the list price, especially when they have aggressive cut-throat competition like Walmart, Target, and the wholesale clubs.
Toys R Us was no more expensive than anywhere else. They charged the manufacturer’s list price, with occasional sales, like everyone else. Perhaps Walmart or Target had the same items at slightly lower prices, but not significantly, and a few aisles of selection couldn’t compete with TRU’s giant stores full of toys.
It’s a shame that a company that held a unique position in the marketplace, was destroyed not by their own bad business practices, but because of the predatory actions of financial sociopaths.
That problem is easily solved by adjusting the pay scales.
The problem with that solution is that then some Sociopathic Oligarch makes a billion dollars less that he doesn’t need.

We tend to put historical people on pedestals, but the thing to always remember is that people have been people, for as long as there have been people. You can go back to a community of literal early human cave dwellers, and you would find all of the same personality characteristics that we see today - love, hate, anger, greed, ambition, duplicity, ignorance, intolerance, kindness, jealousy, empathy, disingenuousness, criminality, avarice, perversion, corruption, courage, cowardice, etc.
So if we see those powdered wig wearing dorks as ridiculous clowns, you can absolutely count on the fact that the people of the time thought the same thing.
I’ve been saying this for a while. It’s not that these wealthy women think their carved up faces look good, it’s that they look expensive. They know all the procedures, and the costs, so when a friend shows back up to brunch after 6 weeks, with a new face, they know exactly how much she spent on her new mug.
Regular people can’t participate in this game, so whenever anyone sees their weird face, they’ll know how rich they are.
If you support it with your words, your actions, and your vote, then you own it. MAGA followers are every bit as bad as the leaders.
While I think that your first section makes a spectacularly excellent point that I had not considered before, your second section broke my brain.
Section one: Excellent point. As Trickle Down Economics spread, and life in America slowly declined as inflation/cost of living steadily outpaced incomes at an increasingly speed, the conservatives managed to blame the problems on liberals, minorities, and immigrants. I hadn’t looked at it that way, as an excuse why Trickle Down wasn’t fixing everything, but it is absolutely true.
Section 2: You are still trying to figure out if the MAGAs motivations are valid or not? Did you just become conscious a month ago? Because it has been apparent that MAGA is about nothing but money and control since they came on the scene a decade ago. Since then, they have become indelibly tied to treason, corruption, pedophilia, racism, misogyny, ignorance, stupidity, and virtuosic incompetence. Bad Faith is their core value.

Which is why the opposition should reclaim the flag. It has become a religious fetish to MAGA, and the Left has to take it back, and reintroduce it as a symbol of Freedom, not treason pedophilia, and corruption.

And for some reason, the “intelligent” people that we have elected to protect us from such silliness, has decided to pretend that the MAGA nonsense, treason, and corruption, should be respected, and indulged.
