Whether or not this is the case or how deep he sunk into it, he‘s taking the role of the victim here and it changed the conversation around his blunder. It feels to me like people are grasping for straws when they say „If it happened to a guy this smart it can happen to anyone!“ like he didn‘t just gamble away his credibility on several occasions.

Knitters of all online communities are criticizing the guy harder for his claims about knitting than many people do about his first attempt to wiggle his way out of the AI drama with a non-apology.

But whatever I‘m the last guy to grab for the pitch forks here or anything. I just think people really need to open their eyes about Youtube and content creators in general because despite mostly knowing clips from the guy I wasn‘t surprised by the drama. Despite of what his frequent viewers say, this did not come out of the blue.

The reason they‘ve been constructing data centers this huge, so many of them and so rapidly is AI and they‘ve been building them way too close to residential districts in many cases.

I challenge you to give me one good reason why we need these super data centers in our lives that outweigh the cons. They put our health at risk. Let alone the insane climate damage from all these gas turbines running 24/7. There is nothing on the internet you couldn‘t do anymore without them. Quite the opposite. The construction of more and bigger data centers is vastly accelerating enshittification of all services. You certainly don‘t need super data centers near cities to host Lemmy.

I mean have you seen the electricity bills in some places? They‘re literally running out of power, water and money so you can generate slop of dogs riding tricycles. There‘s a physical limit of how many of those slop factories you can physically support and Florida has seemingly reached it‘s limit.

Funnily enough with Axon they seem to surveil less than half as much as they did previously, giving the anti-flock movement an actual sense of accomplishment. If they continue to fight against Axon, the next vendor will be even smaller.

But yeah they need to outlaw this anyway or it will keep creeping back.

They really should instead look at this and say: „Alright, big tech can‘t be trusted so we‘re breaking up tech corporations invested in AI and any company with a value of a trillion dollars or more.“

They‘re not going to, because they‘re too invested themselves but lawmakers really should draw the right conclusions here.

Right now I‘m enjoying premium family for free but if they start shoving AI in my face I won‘t use it at all anymore. I‘m already very annoyed by their obviously (and I‘m pretty sure technically illegally) paid for „recommendations“ on the home page and their stupid audio book credit system. Articles always had em dashes in them. It‘s a sign of AI in internet posts and comments but not so much in longer text forms I believe. The „It‘s not A. it‘s B!“ thing is really suspicious though. I think it‘s AI too.

Definitely a mix of both. I estimate bot pollution is likely growing much faster than natural Linux desktop adoption, though. Simply because LLM based bots are appearing everywhere. I wouldn‘t be surprised if Linux Desktop breaks the 25% mark soon just because of bots.

Zipping files was never enough to secure them in the cloud. It‘s always recommended to properly encrypt sensitive data properly before you upload it. Whether you use OneDrive, Google Drive, Proton drive or whatever.

Still amazing how far Microslop goes to sniff through your stuff preemptively, though. Your cloud storage should be none of their business but sadly it‘s their entire business now. Privacy laws should definitely extend to digital space you rent no matter the circumstances.

If cloud providers argue that‘s too dangerous then they simply shouldn‘t be in business. If a government says it‘s too dangerous then they shouldn‘t be in power. Obviously they don‘t trust in the people who voted for them. Therefore they don‘t trust democracy and are therefore fundamentally undemocratic and a danger to the people.

Billionaires would be cooler if there were mythical creatures that don‘t exist but we tell stories about heroes who slay them.

And that‘s exactly the problem. Somehow this guy has earned a lot of trust and he wasn‘t handling that trust very well. That‘s why people who stand for something like him, should be held accountable and to higher standards than say your aunt posting AI cats with hats in the family group chat.

I‘m a little surprised how easy Lemmy goes on a millionaire Youtuber who refuses to take actual responsibility of his actions. Mind you, there are worse things than producing slob but people really believed in that guy. And all he offers is a non-apology first where he stated that he doesn‘t really remember. Followed by saying AI psychosis made him do it. Just be an adult, man. That‘s all I‘m asking.

Taking breaks is not what creators do anymore after a backlash as it kills the channel. He will keep posting stuff. Maybe even ride the anti AI wagon for engagement. He‘s a content creator through and through.

For me it’s just another disconnected millionaire Youtuber. But he‘s kind of blaming AI or rather his relationship with LLMs for this dilemma instead of actually reflecting on himself. If he thinks simply abstaining from using LLMs will establish a connection to the people he‘s dead wrong and will likely fall back on AI in no time.

I don‘t know why his political opinions would be worth a headline. He was a Hillary Clinton supporter, calls himself socialist but also vehemently anti-woke, and thinks immigrants equal crime. He may have studied philosophy in Frankfurt but his statements have overall been completely nuts so far. I don‘t think he has it all together.

I don‘t think that comparison works either because you get a new phone for completely unrelated reasons than the door but you only get new keys under rare circumstances. The new phone scenario probably happens more than 5 times as frequently.

With SpaceX we actually have a company that has a real incentive to wreck the planet and that should have everyone concerned.

It‘s so disheartening to see intelligent and somewhat tech savvy people around me buy into it. They treat these things almost like they‘re living beings and offload more of their own thinking capacity to chatbots. No amount of explaining how this is just one of countless publicity stunts can convince them. They‘re acting like I‘m the one who just doesn‘t understand technology while they‘re letting word salad influence how they think or even IF they think.
