Can you give me an example of remote direct access that would be blocked? You can use nginx to forward your public IP to your Plex and it’s fine, you can forward ports directly on your router and connect to your public IP, you can use a VPN to connect from a different network; what are they limiting? It’s the same hurdle you have to overcome with Jellyfin. Relays are convenient, but they also cost money.

You can use ZeroTier to connect from anywhere. It only makes you pay to use the plex router/relay.

The $2/mo is for the Plex relay service. If you access the server directly it should be free.

Nebula is just a better experience most cases too. It just shows you what you’re subscribed to in chronological order, which is how YouTube used to work when it was less annoying.

It also shares more revenue with creators and doesn’t force feed you ads. I really hope it continues to grow and never betrays its roots.

To some extent, yeah. I work in web development and there’s no shortage of opportunities for someone good at reactive front end development and JSON APIs. But I think there is a shortage of grads who have the necessary skills.

I’ve been trying to grow my business, and it’s frankly depressing how many people graduate with computer science degrees without learning the basics of the field, the volume of vibe coders is too damn high.

Couldn’t they just start accepting ACH to get around the payment processors? Or is that overly complicated?

I used to be of that opinion, but after a series of conversations about it I came around to the idea that any engagement, even non-commercial, has the effect of promoting the brand.
