Just to mention, a used or refurb M1 or M2. I don’t believe anything newer is supported, so save some cash IMO.

Debian. For decades.
My first installation was slack and from then until now has been a mix of more things than I care to list, but includes things like freebsd on a DEC multia, a sparcstation pizza box with a 2.6ish kernel maybe?, along with things like Ubuntu, suse, fedora, centos, gentoo, ive built from scratch, I ever remember the days of configuring x with fvwm95 because I thought it would be easier for my parents.
I always go back to Debian. Though I’m happy with arch when I want something ‘current’.

23 days… Actually one of my coworkers did squeak like one. She figured out why I called about 5 seconds in and just went “squeak”, which made me burst out laughing, and honestly it just got my brain where it needed to be even quicker
I’m going to call this another vote for Debian

23 daysI have a few Lego kits my kids have gotten me, and a small toy penguin, which I talk through things with.
Thankfully it looks like I’m just on camera. Though I work from home so it doesnt really matter.
I also treat several coworkers like my rubber ducky. I warn them first though, so I feel like its not as bad.
What would your ultimate distro be like?
… Debian.

It drives me nuts.
At least provide a transcript somewhere. Thats all I ask.

RTFM long predates videos in the internet; at this point I’d actually call it inclusive of videos and guides.
I actually get pretty pissed off when the only guide for a feature beyond a couple lines of “here’s what this can do” with no elaboration is just a video. I don’t want a video. I want a damn manual with working examples.
But if its all there is, I’ll watch it before asking questions. The same should go for people who prefer videos, they should at least try the manual first, or looking at some guides or videos.
What’s frustrating for people (generically speaking) is when zero attempt is made in advance of posting questions, and from what I see, is the majority of “RTFM” responses.
Entirely possible! Thats why I’m curious about what she thinks now though, aside from her admission on camera.
Thats why I’m curious about one that admitted to being wrong, I want to know what she thinks about those things now that she considers a vote for Trump to be a mistake.
Generic MAGA is exactly as you say, thats why I’m curious about a “no longer MAGA” scenario
I don’t know, a lot of them seem to think:
- The rapes were fabrications to discredit Trump
- The rape of children was a fabrication to discredit Trump
- Eliminating public services is part of a plan to get better public services
- Environmental regulations weren’t based on anything real and was about kickbacks to regulators
Etc.
I’d like to know what that woman thinks now, if she realizes the lies.
My favorite solution is to take my laptop from work being decommissioned, drop Linux on it, and have it last for years to come.
My wife is using my laptop from ~9 years ago. I’m using my work laptop from ~5 years ago, and my current work laptop is about to get decommissioned. My oldest will probably get the one my wife is using.
They all work great.

2 monthsFor work, I have a work computer with a build on it provided by work.
If your work is letting/having you use something different, then explanations shouldn’t be needed. If youre doing this on your own, that may be a problem.

The discord-esque look I think works. Though if you’ve got a client rec for xmpp with a similar feel, for that I’m all ears.

Neat
Maybe I can spin something up for family to use instead of SMS.

Check b stock.
Typically its scratch & dent, sometimes demo or trade show use.
Still gets a warranty (which is better on commercial in most cases), and usually a pretty sizable discount. If you can find a local distributor, they will sometimes sell off prior year stock for a really good price.
