  • yup they’ll go the route of Sega. The writing has been on the wall with the Xbox Division for awhile now that I’m honestly surprised they’re still trying to “make it work”.

Xbox was a weird one. I haven’t used one since the 360 and honestly I couldn’t even begin to tell you what the next console in the line was after the 360. was it the series x? was it the one? I dont’ know. I mean after buying like 5 360s because of red ring or whatever why would I continue that idiocy?

  • I use Bitwardens self hosted option, VaultWarden, that I run in a docker. works fine. I use it with the bitwarden CLI since I’m using QuteBrowser on all my machines. I then run a weekly backup of my vaultwarden to an external ssd.

Beauty of it is that it will also work with Bitwardens extension on chrome or firefox. So if I’m on another machine and I need access to my PW’s I can just install the extension, add my self-hosted vaultwarden, then remove it when i’m done.

  • Shadowlands was where I finally stopped. Playing since day one I’ll never forget when I decided to stop. I got the the “fairy land” part of the expansion, was running my Orc Hunter through and then I just stopped and asked myself “What are you doing?” It wasn’t fun. It became a chore to get through the content to the eventual gear grind at the end just like ALL the previous expansions.

  • I run Akkoma, Navidrome, Searx, valutwarden, RomM, Forgejo, wireguard, RDP, and a few other things all via docker. Honestly I just keep everything in their own dir and just have Yazi on my server to make it easier to manage. I don’t auto update anything, it’s all manual updates.

I’m probably going to slap Watchtower in there to just make things easier. don’t really need to over think it in all honesty.

  • Try Pop. They just put Cosmic into Beta and updated the OS so now would be a great time to give it a shot. Or just load up a bunch of distro live isos on like a thumb drive or external drive and try them all and see which one you like the best. There’s zero harm in distro hopping and you should never feel like you need to lock yourself down to one distro for months or years on end. I myself distro hop all the time when I want to switch up my linux experience. good way to learn them all too. I’ll bounce around from Arch to Fedora back to Arch then to NixOS over to Void or whatever I want. I run NixOS on my main machine, have CachyOS/Arch on another and my server is Ubuntu. And all that will change soon as I want to go and try out one of the new KDE distros or something completely different.

  • Honestly just use whatever you want whenever you want. I mean for myself I’m currently using DOOM Emacs but that’ll change in a month or two when I decide to use something else. I’ll routinely rotate through Neovim/LazyVim, DOOM Emacs, Zed, Kate, whatever really. if something new comes along, i’ll use that for a bit. Hell sometimes I just can’t be bothered and will just use Nano.

But yeah, they’re all fine. use whatever you want.

  • I actually daily drove it during Alpha for a bit but stopped using it after a couple Alpha releases because it got a bit worse with each alpha release and more slow. Haven’t tried the beta yet but will probably get around to it soon.

Killer feature? I mean if you want GNOME or a regular DE with tiling then sure…have at it. You’re not going to get anywhere near the caliber of customization you would have with say KDE Plasma or literally any other WM out there but the trade of is you don’t have to deal with config files for the tiling aspect. It’s a buggy mess though. With each added feature the bugs just increased which is sort of expected.

The last time I used it the shortcuts were a bit of a pain to get working correctly and the startup was slow. It does come packaged with its own file manager and terminal. The file manager isn’t anything special, but honestly the terminal isn’t that bad. If I recall the terminal doesn’t support images so if that’s something you want (like for me it is since I use Yazi) then I’d just uninstall it. I don’t think it has the option to style GTK stuff but I heard they might have changed that with the Beta.

It’s launcher is pretty nice and you can do a lot with it. naturally app launching but also web searching, calculator, file searching, etc.

I wish it had an option like KDE Plasma does for laptops where you can completely disable the touchpad if you have an external mouse plugged in instead of just disable while typing. But you can circumvent that if you know what you’re doing with like something like noinput cli or whatever or making a udev rule.

I think it still needs a wee bit longer to bake. If they can work out the bugs, speed it up a bit, and make the overall size of it smaller than KDE I would switch back to it. It’s pretty simple and bare bones but I mean for wayland your only options are pretty much Plasma or GNOME so having a third option is awesome.
