I figured that the point of using a dumb phone would be that there hopefully wouldn’t be meaningful accounts, information, and communication to really get at. Regular calls and SMS were already fair game, and there is basically nothing else on there. Nothing for evil megacorps to siphon up, no social media, not much of anything.

Hey, maybe you’re more common than either of us suspected. I do all of my steam usage on my desktop with a large monitor. Their UI is trash for it IMO.

That could very well be the case. We don’t have their stats, so maybe they do get a lot of store users on their phone where people make purchases and then later play on their PCs… but I am pressing F to doubt here.

This is my first time actually looking at the new Steam store UI and I have to say that I don’t like it. They seem determined to fit less and less information on the screen and make it harder to find content. I didn’t like their previous UI revamp either for the same reason, but this one is worse. That’s fine Valve, my backlog is eternal, I won’t buy more games if you make it hard.

Well, as I said, it was flawed. The XP grind near the end got roooough, especially since that was still in the era of losing XP when you died. That was especially frustrating when they had lag issues that killed you and then you lost a week of progress leveling up. The game was still a lot of fun though.

Seeing as how it was a name of a thing created by a specific group of people, I call bullshit. If I invent a new thing and give it a name, that doesn’t give a bunch of jackasses the right to steamroll over that because they don’t like it.

This reminds me of when people correct people on how to pronounce their own name based on how it is spelled. I have seen this happen so many times and it infuriates me.

For real, now THAT would be something I’d get behind.

CoH was a flawed, but awesome MMO in many ways. I’d love to see it done right, but I think they are out of their mind if this think this will succeed.

That to me still feels like a variety of “scale”. All of these tools (Ansible is a great example) are of dubious benefit when your scale of systems is small. If you only have a single dev machine or server, having an infrastructure-as-code system or containerized abstraction layer, just feels to me like unnecessary added mental overhead. If this post had been in a community about FOSS development or general programming, I’d feel differently as all of these things can be of great use there. Maybe my idea of selfhosting just isn’t as grandiose as some of the people in here. If you have a room full of server racks in your house, that’s a whole other ballgame.

This is a big part of why I don’t use VMs or containers at home. All of those abstractions only start showing their worth once you scale them out.

I feel like this too. I do not feel comfortable using docker containers that I didn’t make myself. And for many people, that defeats the purpose.

Why would I want add overheard and complexity to my system when I don’t need to? I can totally see legitimate use cases for docker, and work for purposes I use VMs constantly. I just don’t see a benefit to doing so at home.

Ironically, the light gun segments are doable with the gamepad and actually easier that way. I always used the gamepad to beat them instead of the zapper.
