I use duck duck go mainly, but more and more I’m using yandex. I heard about kagi, the privacy-focused but paid alternative, and what it really comes down to is how much do you want to trust others with your data?

This article made no mention of browser extensions like ublock or privacy badger, the latter being a track-blocker exclusively.

Can someone convince me DuckDuckGo isn’t the browser equivalent of controlled opposition? I struggle like I do with Firefox to see their behavior any other way.

Because they sell themselves as a cute alternative to Google without offering a substantiative difference.

They allow you to search with js off, which means no tracking on their domain. Quite a big difference.
They can’t stop tracking on other sites, quite obviously.
