First of all, most democrats aren’t leftists. Second, every group has hypocrites, but the republicans/conservatives have made all the discrimination a matter of policy pretty consistently.

3 monthsPeople are a spectrum in all spaces. You are a product of your environment. When a person is racist, or prejudice, it typically means they are inexperienced and have a fear of the unknown with a fight preference in their fight or flight mechanism.
If they had the life experiences to have encountered diverse people, they would have realized there is no difference at all. If they are intelligent enough they will learn from the experiences of others with logical empathy.
Racism is telling you, the person lacks curiosity. That in turn tells you that they have not explored much in life and likely do not read regularly. They are not a life long learner and have likely lost the majority of what they learned in school. This means they are functional in their life niche but stupid and have no character depth. They may appear normal on the surface, but in the game of life, they hold a terrible hand and will always disappoint. Anyone that shows such prejudice has no real ethics or values. They are showing you their poker hand and daring you to be dumb enough to include them in your game. For some people, politics are a brand and team sport.

The things people say they believe and how people actually behave are only loosely related. Not many people have a fully formed and coherent ideology that’s also congruent with their real life.
They aren’t true leftists is why. At best they’re centrists, at worst they’re right wingers against Trump.

Once you realize most people are hypocritical and fairly stupid, these questions will fall away and you’ll be left with only the despair that yes, you are the same species as them.
Happy New Year!

The existence of the bourgeois liberal requires them to ignore their own classism.

The Anerican political theater has twice as many viable parties as North Korea. Contrast that with virtually any other democracy where there are at least a handful of parties fighting to be in charge. That doesn’t mean though that you don’t have enough different opinions to fill a party-political spectrum like that in the US. The dominance of the two parties just forces most people under one of the big tent roofs. So you have more conservative Democrats (and there used to be more liberal Republicans) in the party that are bigger in relative numbers compared to what you’ll find in the social democrats in Germany (or among the conservatives in France). The Democrats are nominally the more left leaning party. But if you compared the party programs they would align more with the conservative parties of Scandinavia. Everything is further to the right in the US thanks largely to gun laws and lack of social security. And that explains why you have non-lefty people in the nominally lefty party. And while bigotry and hatred are certainly not a new thing, there is a culture that permeates down from the political leadership. And if name calling and pouring oil into the fire of social issues are the new MO, and admissions and convictions respectively of sexual assault don’t keep candidates out of office, many people feel they are now also allowed to say the quiet part out loud.
