VII has yet to hold my excitement, I’ve played a few rounds but 80% of the time prefer opening VI.

  • Rage culture in gaming is such an obnoxious problem. So many people on the subreddit rag on the game and haven’t even played it.

The firaxis team took a big swing, whether or not they missed is subjective. Vote with your wallet, all the previous iterations of civ are still there to be happily played.

I think the game is not as good as Civ VI but is following the same cycle all civ games have taken since I started playing. It’s not as fleshed out as the previous entry until all the expansions land.

Personally, I will always appreciate game designers attempting to try to do something fresh over playing it safe.

They did not attempt anything fresh. They just blatantly ripped off the mechanics from one of their competitors.

That’s not the issue with the game, at all.

  • I still don’t see why they copied this feature from Humankind. It was the worst part of an otherwise decent game. They should have learned from Humankind’s flaws and done something like keep your civ but change your leader by era. Same general concept, but feels much more Civ.

Always good to be patient with Civ games. By the time they’ve fixed most of its flaws, there will probably also be some solid discounts on the game.

  • Finally, I didn’t buy it because of having to switch civs. I’m still gunna wait to hear reviews of the full thing, though. I’m enjoying Civ 6.

Ngl that was the only unique thing that attracted me to 7 and now that they effectively backpedaled I don’t see why would I fire up 7 over 6 or 5. Yeah it’s still an option, but them giving up on what was supposed to be the core feature of the entry is a sign that whatever the future content updates may be - they will be made with 1 civ through all ages in mind. Wish they would’ve stuck to their guns and instead improved on the idea, oh well.

    • There was no improving on that idea. Just a bad mechanic to its core. In a game called “Civilization” you couldn’t even play as one.

    • Agreed. I haven’t picked it up yet since the best time to get Civ is a few years after it’s release but that was the single most refreshing thing that nearly made me buy it on release. I’m a bit disappointed that they’re backtracking on it instead of committing to improving it.

    • Same. They took a risk with that in 7 and I liked that. What I didn’t like was starting over each time, I would have liked a new Civ but then simply continue on with different perks. Now it’s the same as 5 and 6
