• tfw when the normies are so eliminativism-brained that the only people capable of thinking about the ramifications of creating IRL philosophical zombies to control military drones/the media and maybe one day replace all of humanity is the coolest leader of the child predator megacult

I thought that at this point everyone calls him Gandalf.

Cult leader in white robe writes about stuff he doesn’t understand.

  • major manifesto

Why dumb down proper news reporting?
The “manifesto” is called Encyclical letter, and is the classical format of publications of the Catholic Pope.

I grew up so ideologically opposed to these guys that I hate it when they make a good point. 😩

    • 29 minutes

You know it’s a strange year when both the Mullah regime of Iran and the Pope of the Catholic church put something out there and you can’t immediately disagree…

    • 3 hours

They are socially conservative, but they have been fairly consistent at asking people not to kill each other for the past decades.

      • I think the leadership is less socially conservative compared to the past, but they represent some very conservative bases so they more or less are having to crawl progress forward or they risk a schism.

The previous pope, Pope Francis, stacked the Vatican with more progressive leaning cardinals. I believe Pope Leo will be following in Pope Francis’ footsteps in terms of appointments.

      • 6 hours

Sir, I tip my hat in your general direction. That was, as they say, a cracking joke.

  • I stand behind Leo’s message 100%,

but you have to admit it is kind of funny that the original gaslighter organization which uses positive reinforcement to brainwash people into worshiping a deity of their own creation is trying to stop tech companies from doing the exact same thing, lol.

    • I’ve heard there are AI worshipping cults now. I wonder if that’s got anything to do with it.

    • 6 hours

As much as I hate the organization, I want to forgive the people who run it. I want to believe they do it cuz they’re brainwashed too.

    • We in the USA have a issue with secular and non secular idol worship… The pope is a CEO… Kinda like his own little corpo kingdom… kinda like these billionaire welfare queen pdfile anarcho capitalist libertarian tech ceos…and it seems like both parties can’t keep their hands off the kids. Like musky boy is trying to create or already created. These catholic clergy are just grifters and fraudsters. It is sad to watch the elderly spiral into madness and these vampires love taking advantage of the weak while posing as “the good guy”… the world is a inversion of what people actually believe. It is hard to keep your head on straight with such a heavy knowledge base. I looked into the abyss and it spit in my eye.

    • 13 hours

Yeah but at least that organization has not ever instigated a war, right?

      • Is an instititute not allowed to develop into something better over time?

        • 11 hours

Certainly they have not at all stopped misinforming people. There are also still elements that promote hatred.

          • Have they ever truly gotten rid of the pedo problem either? Like all of the ones in the system?

        • it was built on a weak foundation of lies for a people who are scared to die. But really who isn’t… I remember hearing catholics say “those christians over there are not real christians” …Then I proceeded to think neither of you two are christians but a lost people displaced by war, exploited by capitalist and no real memory of your past. Bondage is all they know. Without a scientific mind you just make shit up and in the hiearchy the poor pay more.

ps I think book reviews are stupid but a review of a machine is not. Yes please tell me how to think… Don’t challenge my stupid ideas. I love my hug box…

Certainly not one that has been around for centuries and has seen many different world views over the years!

The pope’s AI encyclical was good reading and reminds us to center human dignity, compassion, etc. Lots of ethics to explore with regard to AI and related cultural phenomena.

    • So when my priest raped me and the church protected him, that was an example of the ethical views and compassion and respect for human dignity you’re talking about?

I guess I always have more to learn from this amazing institution, like how I’m an abomination for being queer.

      • 10 minutes

I am sorry you had gone through that experience. The only church that illuminates at all is the one we can set on fire :')

PS. This thread can easily spin on another reiteration of the arguments around “separating the art from the artist”. That text on AI may have a certain sympathy to some… I haven’t read it. After this post, I thought “maybe I should?”. Thanks to your comment I got centered back in my perspective: “nah. the pope can say whatever he wants to. I won’t be his supporter nor audience.”

“Fuck the ethical considerations and rush it through!” - most any american business person.

  • Since the Catholic church now owns more land than anybody else on Earth (170 million acres), perhaps the Pope can grace us all by paying property taxes from this point onward? The church’s unimaginable wealth should be able to cover it… everybody else manages it somehow.

    • 7 hours

Are enough people going to church nowadays to warrant the big cash flows, as in the past? Went home to a family reunion last year and my aunt/uncles 8 children were raised catholic and went to church every Sunday. Discovered none of the kids, or their kids, go to church anymore.

    • 17 hours

Since the Catholic church now owns more land than anybody else on Earth (170 million acres)

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_lands

Federal lands are lands in the United States owned and managed by the federal government.

The federal government manages about 640 million acres (2.6 million km2) of land in the United States…

I’d also guess that the Russian and Canadian governments are up there.

      • 15 hours

And the farthest west you go, the more the federal government owns lands. In some states like Nevada, the state only owns a small portion of their state land.

        • This caused a lot of problems when the state courts tried to protect Native American lands being leveled by the Trump admin because of his bullshit wall but the federal government just outright ignored them.

      • Russia being a dictatorship implies they have total unquestionable control of all of Russian territory, which would put them at the top of the list by a lot.

While we are regulating concepts, I wonder if anyone has tried regulating religions or economic styles.
