• “We don’t have Cosmos or NOVA but we do have a complete collection of Ancient Aliens and whatever bullshit Graham Hancock peddling at the moment.”

streaming services when you wanna watch something else other than softcore porn with 20 celebrities or a 3 hour movie on why Israel and the CIA are good actually

  • I use Kodi btw.

Years ago I didn’t understand the point of Kodi, but over time I think it’s been become much more apparent/vindicated compared to the alternatives.

I hated the moment Netflix started doing that, especially for titles it used to have. “Oh, we know what you’re looking for, but sucks to be you. Here’s what you can watch”

  • And if it’s Apple TV, F1 the Movie is probably still being promoted in #1 spot, because fuck your individual interests

I know this is a meme, but the only service I’ve found that doesn’t follow this exact pattern is MUBI. Too bad piracy is way more convenient than that, anyway.

    • Apple TV is basically the only streaming service I have respect for at this point, and I still hate the UI. They just have so many good shows.

They’re the only ones making great science fiction imo. Almost everything else is pure slop.

I do agree. I think they purposely make the UI bad to make it less obvious how small of catalog they have compared to Netflix/prime etc.

I’d much rather have a small catalog of mostly high quality shows, compared to whatever the fuck everyone else is doing.

I use JustWatch to hunt down movies and series, but often the one I’d like to watch exists nowhere.

Only issue with that page is that no matter what you’re looking for, it advertises Prime as “has similar!” in a sneaky way that gets through adBlock. Luckily it’s easy enough to make a filter.

So truth. We’ve had so much times situations at home, when we wanted to watch a particular movie, yet it was not available on any streaming service, and you had to be subscribed even to check if it is present on the platform. Piracy just ended up the only available option that times…

  • lol I signed up for deal alerts because I wanted a really specific product. my keywords were meticulously specific. their deal search tool allowed me to tune my search so products I want are in the results and products I don’t want are not. every email they send me includes products that are “related but obviously wrong” to my keywords. Like I’d be ok if an algorithm slipped in a mistake or two but you made a whole fucking page dedicated to this and then you just send random bullshit to my email? that’s basically spam. Like imagine if you made a custom search for “nike sneakers -addidas” and the search tool confirmed 100% you got the keywords right and then the actual email alert is sending you addidas shorts and other random bullshit.

Omg agree. The quality of content is so low.

Low key relationship drama. Slow stories. Wacky but boring fiction.

All with uninspiring names and template style covers.

And to top it off they are made to be a drama, a comedy, a live story, with gritty darkness and an uplifting outlook in one. I’m calling it the identity crisis period.
