I’m looking forward to them bringing out SteamOS with NVIDIA support. I hope that leads to improvements for NVIDIA cards, so people who don’t have AMD cards have an easier time moving to Linux as opposed it being a buggier experience that has people go back to Windows.

This is the only reason I’m using Endeavour and not Bazzite. Even with Bazzite’s dedicated nVidia option, it performed horribly on my hardware and no one responded to my questions whether it was the forum or Discord. SteamOS definitely isn’t designed to play nice with nVidia (yet).
And overall, nVidia stability hasn’t been great with Linux. My next system will definitely be AMD.

1 dayRTX or GTX? RTX works pretty well in Linux, at least for me in Kubuntu

RTX 4070. And it works okay outside Bazzite and great in Endeavor. It’s just whatever optimizations have been done to SteamOS don’t agree with my hardware config.

2 daysI recently upgraded my desktop and my laptop (with broken keys that I can’t seem to fix) is staying in a backpack until I can put steamos on it. It’s got an nvidia card in it so this would be a godsend.

Meh, bring on the ARM devices! Get native binaries on heterogeneous SoCs, and then maybe someday OSes will allow x86 SoCs to live up to their potential instead of forcing them to pretend to be a PCI peripheral and turn into a hot plate just keeping up with serial instructions.

There’s Armada OS for now, but I’m looking forward to first party support (eventually) or retooling of Steam Frame support (more likely).

I’ve been running it on my rog Ally x for a long time.
Much better than that “armoury crate” windows bullshit it shipped with, and no man’s sky actually plays smoothly in Linux
- auzy1@lemmy.worldEnglish1 day
I couldn’t even get it to consistently open and close games properly tbh. Steam sorted that out ages ago

When I was on windows I used ghelper on my Asus laptop instead of armory crate. I had been a long time Ubuntu user on my desktop PC but I was hesitant to make the switch on my laptop because ghelper worked so well. Turns out that someone ported ghelper to Linux so I finally moved my laptop over to Linux. If you’re still using an Asus machine I’d recommend checking it out!

If only that pos didnt autoinstall armoury crate regardless of my consent
Thankfull I got rid of it
