They were already building a plant in US via Chips Act. Though looks like he compromised that.

The idea behind that fab was so US can continue to build weapons if Taiwan was under attack, this why it wasn’t the latest technology. The weapons would still be important to defend it, but yeah this admin is signalling Taiwan won’t get help and is asking for 50% so it won’t suffer consequences of not helping them.
They also seem very dumb if they think they could spin 50% just like that even if Taiwan was completely on board with this.
No surprise, when this admin is sending signals that it won’t help. Doing what they are asking would allow US to give Taiwan to China without much consequences to US.
Responding as I also would be interested and don’t want to lose this thread.
Though in my use case being able to power cycle is also important, although maybe could be done via controlling UPS
Same, I got Alexa (the first one with a good speaker) when attended a sales event of another company. I set it up, but after seeing its network activity even when no one was home I shut it down and didn’t use it again.
I don’t understand why people don’t feel weirded out by having an always on listening device.
Microsoft said this, but this likely applies to AWS and GCP too.
What do you expect? Disable console first, then put things in EULA?
Why put something like this in EULA if there’s no intention of doing it, especially as they didn’t put it for EU where such practice is outright illegal?
The “legalese” explicitly stated in clear words that they have right to brick your device. If they had no intention of doing it they wouldn’t put that in.
This was added so once they brick it they can argue in court that you agreed to this when purchased your switch.
Before it happens they put it in EULA which they did.
You acknowledge that if you fail to comply with the foregoing restrictions Nintendo may render the Nintendo Account Services and/or the applicable Nintendo device permanently unusable in whole or in part.
It couldn’t be any clearer.
If they going to brick the console they better refund the money.
They had the same at SpaceX
Maybe not, but there’s some merit to it. Initially it was a highly desirable car, now one is ashamed to be in because owner is a Nazi. Another problem is that there’s much higher risk that someone else will damage it (again, because of the owner).

Reminded me when I first heard Smashing Pumpkins - Everlasting Gaze
At least it did. Can you access [email protected] ?

If you want to also access those communities then yeah, if you don’t then doesn’t matter.
There are some servers that defederate from lemmy.world, for example beehaw.org
No, it’s a completely different instance. It was less restrictive and not banned by some communities, for example lemmy.world blocks piracy communities on dbzer0 and is also defederated from beehaw.org
Ubuntu was created as supposedly the first Linux “made for people” of course there were other version of Linux trying to do that but Ubuntu also had funding, including for advertising (it was created by a billionaire Mark Shuttleworth) which helped.
Mint took Ubuntu and shaped it further to be even simpler.
I think Ubuntu tried to replicate UI of MacOS while Mint tried to look more like Windows.
I personally did not use Mint, but from the comments you can see that it has a significant following.
I used Ubuntu for some time, but stopped over decade ago as I got very frustrated that they frequently introduced instability (note that since Mint is based on Ubuntu it is not completely immune to that), though I hope that things improved and now Ubuntu is more stable.
