This is known for a long time already and the reason why I boycott Substack. If you publish there, you are supporting right wing propaganda. Find a different platform!
- surewhynotlem@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
I don’t fully understand, TBH. Is it particularly hard to create a substack competitor? Why don’t we just… Do that
- Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
I think it’s a bold strategy to leave the bigger more populated and used platforms to constantly exist on the smaller less relevant ones that never grow and offer everything the major platforms do just worse.
Shall we take Stalingrad? nonono it’s full of nazi’s, lets focus on Dieppe
- Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
That doesn’t make any sense. We all left these platforms. Like an exodus. How would that make it harder for these nazi’s to take over these platforms?

Not how taking a cut of subscription revenue works. If you publish right wing propaganda, then maybe you have a point.

How does utilizing and profiting from a service known to promote and profit extremist ideology not aid that service in the promotion thereof? By taking a portion of the profits, you direct traffic and money to the service, which is then directed to extremists. Seems pretty clearcut to me.

2 monthsBut the evangelical Christians want the Jews to trigger the rapture by fighting the final huge war in israel, and I imagine the antisemites are also fine with the Jews all being sent away to israel for then to be sent off to fight a senseless war to their deaths.
Somehow they managed to start off from different angles and both end up wanting Jews to die.
- Formfiller@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
They sure seem to move as a monolith when it comes to systematically destroying the country in a well planned and organized manner like with project 2025, stacking the Supreme Court, dismantling civil rights, dismantling women’s rights installing a dictator and obstruction of everything that isn’t tax breaks for the people who own everything, unlimited money for Israel, unlimited corporate subsidies and installing an oppressive mass surveillance state policed by literal Nazis
- surewhynotlem@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
They have one thing in common: the understand they can get most of what they want by voting as a block, instead of demanding their candidates tick all the boxes.
Leftist infighting is the best tool the right has. And they know it. Whenever you see a leftist saying they won’t vote for a Democrat because “both sides are the same”, there’s a good chance you’re seeing a Russian bot or a right wing plant. Or a fucking idiot. I guess that’s a possible third option.
- Tollana1234567@lemmy.todayEnglish2 months
its easier to vote based fear and hate, because right wing pundits and propaganda assures you are right to be bigoted.

Must be a coincidence that they are both funded by the same oligarchs and Israel
- surewhynotlem@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
No coincidence. Just because both sides are bought and paid for does not mean they’re the same. They differ on a non-zero number of pretty tangible things.
And if you have any realistic means to getting a third party in there, why are you not telling the rest of us??
- Formfiller@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
Pretty simple Don’t vote for people on this list https://www.trackaipac.com/congress
- surewhynotlem@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
And how does that get a third party into power? When the left doesn’t vote, that just hands power to Republicans.

That’s because they hate the rest of us more then they hate each other, that doesn’t mean they won’t turn on each other once more convenient than working together.

they are consistently a monolith in almost everything, the only difference certain skin colors and race. almost everything from abortion, gun rights, rapture, far right, anti-woke,etc they all act as one. thats why they are useful to the gop and far right government its easier to manipulate if they all believe in one thing. if they were actual seperate groups they wouldnt be far right. they get upset over any media that doesnt portry evangelical christianity in a specific way.
- acosmichippo@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
There’s a big difference between being pro-state-of-Israel (Zionist), and being pro-jewish-people in general. They do not necessarily go hand in hand.
Fundamentalist christians are typically Zionist because the state of Israel is necessary for the second coming of christ. It’s entirely self-serving, not a belief they hold because they like jewish people at all. So being zionist and also antisemitic is pretty common because people are racist assholes.
- hector@lemmy.todayEnglish2 months
Plus they hate muslims at least as much or more than Jews, so the math still works out.

Actually there’s a big MAGA civil war among its most popular figureheads that boils down to two camps:
Those that love Hitler
And those who love New Hitler ™️ (Netanyahu)
It started with Tucker Carlson interviewing Nick Fuentes in a verbal back massage. Candice Owens also joined along in that camp too.
Now you have the Tucker-Candice camp at war with the Ben Shapiro camp, and Nick Fuentes attacking everyone because he’s a fucking moron even compared to the others.

It didn’t start there, but it came out into the open there. The Israeli camp in the US is very aggressive in trying to make the US like Israel and the occupied territories, to ghettoize the others here in this country.
To that end they had a vision for turning point usa, to turn it into a sort of hitler youth, and to police students and faculty at k12 to higher education. Kirk had his own vision, rejected theirs, and their board p[r]icks for his own. Then got shot with something that wasn’t a high powered 30 ought six rifle in a situation that does not fit the official story given, and his widow leading the organization has embraced the Israeli in the US faction’s vision, and condemned those blaming Israel’s faction for it. Don’t let the association with a few far right figures fool you though, it’s true. Those few far right figures have turned against the Israel faction, and while Israel may tell us surreptitiously to discount everything they say because they impugn their motives, the ones impugning have the worst motives in the world, Israel’s faction are the fucking devil.

2 monthsThose Christians want to see a religious war happen in the Middle East since they believe it will trigger the return of Big J. And to make that happen the state of Israel needs to not only exist but be in perpetual state of animosity against its neighbors. Also both the zionists and these Christians believe that the Third Temple needs to be build on the place where the Second Temple once stood on Temple Mount. But that is where the Dome of the Rock mosque stands today. So building the Third Temple would trigger the religious war they desperately want to see happening.
- Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
no they don’t. That is what they tell their people. Israel is a foot hold into the Arab countries. Any military needs to be able to deploy rapidly. First to the battle has strategic advantage and smaller less powerful armies have destroyed larger ones just with that advantage. Israel lets America control that area and gives intelligence that it wouldn’t have otherwise. Without Israel, they lose a major strategic advantage to controlling the Arab world. The Big J side is all woo woo. Not even sure I’ve seen anyone really say that. Almost all of America’s moves are to control territory that gives their military the ability to deploy rapidly and to control territory.

Nazis hide behind zionism, blame antizionists for naziism, because its all projection and they have no respect for our intelligence, which may have been warranted in your case.
- hector@lemmy.todayEnglish2 months
Israelis are nazis so it gets complicated. But they all hate the muslims more in the first place. Some nazis want to otherize other groups than the jews, tradiationalist nazis in the US are on the outs with the establishment because they still otherize jewish peoples.
But the Israeli aligned nazis, including the israelis themselves, are generally fine with otherizing the left jewish people to a degree. Long have been, it’s them that have long called them self hating and the like, the truth is jewish people in the US are far more left than the general population, but the minority of Israel nazis in the US is very rich and very connected and not inconsequential in number and are as we were saying in league with the religious right evangelicals and other crazies, that are both in an alliance with Big Business.
That is where the rubber meets the road, the unholy alliance between religious extremists and Big Business. Both think they can control the political monster they bastardly fathered together in their unholy tryst with, I’m not sure who the mother is in this analogy, I want to say Medusa though.

2 monthsIt does seem like the headline + mechanics are entirely uninteresting and unsurprising. I guess the ‘newsworthy’ thing here is that substack platforms the neo-natzis?
It also platforms a bunch of ex-guardian journalists, who will say plenty about the harm being done by corporate buyouts and influence in traditional media. So I have a hard time taking this article, from this venue, very seriously.
For example: fox news, every podcast service, the opinion pages (and some news sections) of most major newspapers, and (I assume) more have all been profiting off of amplifying fringe right-wing folks. Is substack substantially worse? Are they doing anything policy wise that we should advocate for? Regulators who aren’t doing something they should?
- 2 months
Most subs aren’t comprised of almost exclusively hate speech.
- LovingHippieCat@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
I have a Substack and a Ghost (an alternative that’s better in some ways and worse in others). The benefit to Substack is that growth on there is very possible with little participation in the social media like aspect they have, Notes. Ghost, meanwhile, has made growth incredibly difficult since they don’t have that social media feature and you need people to actually sign up for your site instead of just clicking subscribe. It’s kinda frustrating because I genuinely don’t want to support Substack in any way but I write about videogames for almost 150 subscribers with continued and consistent growth and leaving that would be…annoying. What I’ve ended up doing is simply refusing to do any paid subscriptions through Substack so they don’t get any money from me and instead have made a buy me a coffee and will eventually make a patreon.
There’s also just the reality right now that most of these types of places have some Nazis on them since Nazis are now just chilling out in the open as opposed to hiding in their basements like they used to. There’s only so much you can do if you want to be on the internet as a creator.
Paranoid Factoid@lemmy.worldEnglish
2 monthsSubstack is a very useful platform. Both in that you get all the email addresses of your subscriber base, so they don’t lock you in there, and the monetization they have set up.
The fediverse should target it to replicate much or all of its functionality. It is MORE than a mere blog. It has a big ecosystem one blog can’t replicate alone. The payment system would be particularly difficult to copy well.

- AreaSIX @lemmy.zipEnglish2 months
Is everyone really advocating for some substack CEO to start deplatforming people based on ideology? How quickly do you reckon that will be weaponized to deplatform any anti-zionist content? I’d take an ‘open for all’ framework over arbitrary deplatforming based on ideology every day of the week. Particularly considering the ‘new definition’ of anti-Semitism being adopted everywhere that equates most criticism of the state of Israel with anti-Semitism.
- stressballs@lemmy.zipEnglish2 months
It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Policies on hate speech could include automatic fact checking and community notes displayed to every reader.
If fact checking is deplatforming the alt right, then well, problem solved.
