If you told me several year ago that I’d be cheering for Nintendo in a lawsuit…
- teawrecks@sopuli.xyzEnglish2 months
Don’t. Just because a conflict exists doesn’t mean you need to pick a side.
- CosmoNova@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
More than 1000 companies also have sued the US government
I think it‘s past 2000 at this point and growing. This is huge.
- Cethin@lemmy.zipEnglish2 months
It’s big, but it’s not really impressive. It’s just for restitution, because the tariffs were already ruled illegal. This is just suing to see how much will be returned. It’s interesting, but it doesn’t effect much. It’d be nice if the money went to the consumers that paid the increase in prices, but we know that isn’t going to happen.
- webghost0101@sopuli.xyzEnglish2 months
Companies suing the government for taxes that they just pass on to consumers is both the bread and the circuses of the modern age.
- rafoix@lemmy.zipEnglish2 months
I think that Nintendo did not pass on the tariff to consumers in this situation meaning that they have literal monetary damages. At least, that’s the rumor.

Switch 2s are cheaper in America than the Eurozone and the EU aren’t putting any new tariffs on Japan or Viernam, so they haven’t increased prices to account for tariffs. They pulled this off by getting a whole lot of Switch 2s into America before tariffs came into force.

I think Nintendo knows how important the US is to their bottom line so they’re willing to eat some shit before making a buck.

The enemy of my enemy is still my enemy, but it’s funny to see them fight.

Likely the only time I’m rooting for Nintendo in a lawsuit.

Fascists executing people on the street = evil
Company that sells stuff that never goes on sale = evil
- SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.orgEnglish2 months
Nah they do far worse than that. Killing emulators and fan projects and all that.
- null@lemmy.orgEnglish2 months
Hey now, with Nintendo I at least get fun games and they don’t bomb me.
Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish
2 monthsJust don’t pirate their shit to avoid provoking them. They take that so seriously they might consider it.
- themurphy@lemmy.mlEnglish2 months
Nintendo evil for locking down emulators, using it’s market power to smash small indie etc etc.
US evil for raping children, killing them, kills civilians, destroying millions of lives, bombing other countries, deporting families, stealing tax pater money etc etc.
Yeah, good comparison you idiot…
- rafoix@lemmy.zipEnglish2 months
The emulators that Nintendo killed were being developed by morons.
They traded ROMs and used official an official dev kit without even hiding it. There is zero chance that any software company would not bury them ASAP.
I use emulators and have a mister FPGA on my TV. I support emulators but some folks are too dumb to be a part of the community.
- OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.worldEnglish2 months
Heh… It will be a very very long time before any of these companies see a thin dime of that tariff money back…if ever.
- athatet@lemmy.zipEnglish2 months
No no. They will give the money back to the corps. The people who spent that money won’t see it.
- 2 months
The point might be injunctions and judicial record, they might know they’re not getting their money back.
