Imagine you see AI slop on the internet the whole time, then you decide to play a little to forget and get real-time AI slop generated graphics.
That’s some medieval torture shit.
It does not generate a new image, thus generates no AI slop in my book. It is an image filter with AI, which is what DLSS already was. Although Jensen does call it generative AI,
-
It takes color and motion vectors and passes it as input through AI - same as previous versions of AI.
-
It generates no new shapes or geometry.
-
It just applies changes to lighting and materials, basically creating a mask over the original.
Valid criticism for me is:
-
NVIDIA is an abusive monopoly fueling international cartels partly responsible for the exaggerated PC prices.
-
Requires high end GPUs, meaning giving said monopoly more money.
-
In actual gameplay, motion when the character talks creates this uncanny valley effect.
But …
I actually thinks it makes still images look better. /hides
If it was generating completely new images, I would agree. Worst I can do is criticize the things that are wrong with the filter.

4 daysSince when does slop only apply to new images (if ai is even capable of producing new images). The work is not handcrafted, therefore it is slop. Especially if the results are not natural that fits the game or has problems. Or do you think the artist goes through each result and adjusts it? No? Then it is slop by definition.
That’s actually a good point. Nothing I’ve read seems to suggest this is getting rid of texture artists, but it could be a problem in the future. They claim it only alter lighting and materials, so for the moment I’ll take their word for it, but it does make you wonder just how much generative AI is involved.

FYI @[email protected] has been supporting this in every thread that popped up with misinformation and toxic positivity. Likely a bot or a marketing aide.
Be aware the NV’s marketing is all over this, even in Lemmy.
One of the many aliases spamming positivity.
Nope, the only one spamming is you. You just don’t like me saying anything positive about it, even though there’s plenty I criticize.
