    time

should be okay now. i put a certain domain in the slur filter rather than the domain filter. everything should be ok now

t-i-m-e is a slur word now because it reminds us of the shitty times today

I wonder if someone is learning a lesson about regexes on that instance. It would be very weird to replace the string ‘time’ on its own.

I remember back in the early web days I was trying to make a post on a forum with something about Dick Van Dyke, getting a double-whammy name block. He already unfamiliar to the younger people even back then, so none of my attempts to explain who I was talking about worked. I couldn’t even say what show he starred in for them to look up, since it was also called The Dick van Dyke Show.

Thanks so much, I knew there was some kind of term of concept for that but couldn’t find it!

    • But what’s the slur they’re hunting if they catch “time”? Is it tim, ime, ti, me or something else?

      • 6 hours

No idea and not sure if it’s right. They could be attempting to match something across whitespace or line breaks and gotten greedy. Or maybe it is just a string match and not regex and they pasted the wrong string, but that still feels weird.

        • Actually already found out a reasonable candidate. Someone else pointed out that ti-me in Japanese is a slur.

That’s crazy, i can’t think of a reason why thyme are banned or is a slur. Maybe the admin made a mistake?

Reminds me of when Minecraft Bedrock censored the word “flèche” from me, the French word for “arrow”, literally an item in the game x)

    • elder scroll online censored the word sperm, but “whisper” was how they called the private chat, so you’d see lot of people on the global chat writing “whisper me” which was shown as “whi*** *e”

Gundam Evolution has been censoring the word “corn”

So you’ve seen Gundam Uni**** in the chat

  • Your instance is ani.social and “ti-me” (ちめ) can mean bloodshot eyes or fatal error, and might be slang for a pejorative in Japanese or something that sounds close to an actual slur.

Still a stupid reason to censor the English word time on an English community, but that’s the best reason I can think for why it got zapped by a censor bot.

    • Okay that’s pretty ridiculous though.

But also kind of funny. They should pick a new common word to ban every day until it’s just remove remove remove.

Which is funny because there are multiple anime with “time” in their title. So I wonder how that’s going to look.

      “Tis redacted for torture, princess”

I love that one. Season 2 was actually better than the first!.

  • 5 hours

I’m confused, one instance can censor other one too?

    • 5 hours

I think it only affected ani.social users, so no. It was a local issue.

  • 9 hours

I see time, must be something on your side or instance? Probably a mistake, I can’t see how time is a slur in any way or form.

      • 8 hours

The funniest thing is, even with “view source” it shows up the same for me. So I can’t even tell if you’re mocking me!

(I could by going through another instance, but I’ll just assume you are).
