TIL everything that was in todays newspaper. I always figured the TIL-format was mostly for things that you could’ve learned before, but only just learned today. Peculiar little known facts.

Only the police station is new. I would have never expected that hitler’s birth home was still standing.
katy ✨@piefed.blahaj.zoneEnglish
10 hoursconverting hitler’s birthplace to a police station?
something something some of those who work forces are the same who burn crosses
- TwodogsFighting@lemdro.idEnglish2 hours
Should paint a big ‘free Hitler memorabilia inside’ sign, and then inside is just a deep fucking pit.
- Fmstrat@lemmy.worldEnglish5 hours
They are. Then building the station. They are even hiding the rubble.
- Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.caEnglish7 hours
The empty lot would likely still become a place of pilgrimage for these chucklefucks.
MinnesotaGoddam@lemmy.worldEnglish
2 hoursthen we could bulldoze the chucklefucks. we could be sneaky like that

Bulldozing history is what revisionists actually want at least when it comes to the dark stains.

interesting, in the US neo-nazis going to police stations is just called commuting
FundMECFS@piefed.zipEnglish
10 hoursYeah please don’t believe the Austrian police are magically free of neo-nazis…
roofuskit@lemmy.worldEnglish
23 hoursIn the US commuting is what we call the daily travel to/from work.
- 22 hours
More like the cops made their pilgrimage site their base.
UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.worldEnglish
17 hoursDe-Nazification is such a fucking lie.
The surviving leadership of the Nazi Party was grafted directly onto NATO and to the extended network of fascist US/UK business interests that continued to dominate the West at the end of the war.
- FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.worldEnglish15 hours
Hitler took the idea of manifest destiny from the Americans murdering the native population (great job Pete protecting their medals cause that’s all you have on your fucking calendar today), used it on Europe, then we Paperclipped their nerds to build better rockets…it’s been racist and fascist in the air for a long time now but it most certainly was not just ze Germans
Pretty much all of American history taught in schools is either a lie or heavily edited
MinnesotaGoddam@lemmy.worldEnglish
2 hourshey, that comment really azorians my projects
we invented that one, right?
- IndustryStandard@lemmy.worldEnglish7 hours
Europeans invented America. Through slavery and white supremacy.
- prole@lemmy.blahaj.zoneEnglish8 hours
Yeah we definitely did not.
However, I’m not sure why you’re posting this here because Hitler was absolutely heavily inspired by both the genocide of the native peoples, as well as post slavery laws like Jim Crow.
https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/lebensraum
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebensraum
The ideologies found at the root of Hitler’s implementation of Lebensraum modeled that of German colonialism of the New Imperialism period as well as the American ideology of manifest destiny. Hitler had great admiration for the United States’ territorial expansion and saw the destruction of Native American peoples and their cultures that took place during the United States’ westward expansion as a template for German expansion.

The fuck? I would have bulldozed it a long time ago and built a waste processing plant.
- realitaetsverlust@piefed.zipEnglish18 hours
Bulldozing a perfectly good house build hundreds of years ago in the middle of a city might be the dumbest idea you could have.

Can’t believe they ruined a perfectly good piece of statuary like that. What a waste! People in the 1940s were such morons.
MinnesotaGoddam@lemmy.worldEnglish
2 hoursThis is Mr. Hilter of Brown New Hostel. Mr. Hilter, would you stand up please. (after a pause - nothing happens) Mr. Hilter has learnt the value of not being seen. However he has chosen a very obvious piece of cover.
- realitaetsverlust@piefed.zipEnglish10 hours
When was the last time you’ve seen anyone live in a statuary?
- some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.worldEnglish18 hours
But what if it’s a cursed house, and produces a dictator every 150 years or some shit? /s
- ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zipEnglish15 hours
Waste processing plants and police stations yield the same respect from me in most contexts. Honestly, I think was reprocessing plants have the edge overall.
Ricky Rigatoni@piefed.zipEnglish
6 hoursWhy? Waste processing plants perform an important service to increase the health and safety of the citizenry. Sure they smell bad sometimes but so do we.
- HubertManne@piefed.socialEnglish8 hours
good be a good honeypot though. Keep it under survellence. get them out of the population.

17 hoursI mean, it was housing disabled people before. That’s just as good
- Test_Tickles@lemmy.worldEnglish12 hours
Wow, someone just earned the title of the world’s most brutal art critic.
- Fmstrat@lemmy.worldEnglish15 hours
Yes and no. Living in a care hone with Nazis showing up at your door can’t be all that relaxing. As long as they pay to relocate that, it’s a better idea IMO.
robocall@lemmy.worldEnglish
13 hoursThere weren’t many Jewish people there after the war. And there was a lot of ambivalence about their fate immediately after the war, with a focus on rebuilding. And a concern that a genocide against them could happen again if they returned.
- electric_nan@lemmy.mlEnglish23 hours
“Neo Nazis used to make pilgrimages to Hitler’s birthplace. Now they work there!”
daggermoon@piefed.worldEnglish
23 hoursIt’s a perfectly good building. Why destroy a home because an evil person lived there?
daggermoon@piefed.worldEnglish
10 hoursI get that some people feel that way but I sort of see it the same way as I see a murder house. The fact that someone was murdered in a house does not affect the material condition of the building. Ultimately Austria can do as they wish with it. It just seems wasteful to me to destroy it. I’d rather see it made into an LGBT museum or something else Hitler would have hated that will benefit the community while pissing off nazis.
- SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zoneEnglish6 hours
There’s varying levels of taint. And then how to responding to different levels of taint is always historically controversial.
I’m not losing any sleep over Hitler’s house being obliterated, though.
- fizzle@quokk.auEnglish21 hours
If I lived in a suburb and nazis were always coming to visit whatever thing I would want to dismantle that thing to stop the nazis coming.
- Duamerthrax@lemmy.worldEnglish15 hours
They would still come and leave memorials. Making it a police station is daring them to still do it and see how quickly they get arrested.
- WoodScientist@lemmy.worldEnglish23 hours
Shame it’s in the middle of a neighborhood. If it was a farmhouse out in the country, I would have suggested turning it into a sewage lagoon.
- Fmstrat@lemmy.worldEnglish15 hours
Hmm, fair. If this rule had existed I wouldn’t have posted. Granted, I learned about it through word of mouth (in Austria right now), so I found the news article after. Didn’t actually realize it was super-fresh news.
- nonentity@sh.itjust.worksEnglish23 hours
So they explicitly chose to legitimise said pilgrimages.
The only acceptable use is as a gender neutral public toilet block.
- WoodScientist@lemmy.worldEnglish23 hours
I suggest a multiplex consisting of a synagogue, a disability benefits office, and a transgender healthcare clinic.
- 19 hours
Sounds good offhand, then you think about putting those people in a place where they’re gonna get regular visits from neonazis…
- 22 hours
As long as there’s a public all gender bathroom and it always smells faintly of piss.

think of all the fasc bullshit you could wipe out with one incediary device
