Owning anything with Don't Tread On Me on it, is a strong indicator of someone who has bent the knee.

I hate the word snek and similar nonsense, but I’m this case I’ll make an exception.

The only Swiss army knife I could get in yellow had that on it, I fixed it with sand paper.

Yellow is best color, ( I honestly gaslit myself into believing that)

Two Gadsden Flag snakes looking in opposite directions. One of the snakes says Don't tread on me, and the other snake says Tread on them

Same goes for the thin blue line flags I see, specifically places on the driver’s side rear window. It’s not enough to support, they want the support to benefit them.

I’m starting to think people see those as a way to get out of speeding tickets.

In the 80s you just needed to know a cop and get one of those cards.

Yeah I’ve seen those too, like the ones you donate to receive. I’ve seen people just line them up on top of each other as some hope to receive favor from the officer.

Its cheaper just to find a fleabag lawyer to talk to the prosecutor. They can get the points removed and change the offense to something like a broken muffler ticket. You still pay the fine, sometimes a little less, but it doent put points on your record and the insurance company won’t raise your rates.

Source: have done it several times. Costs between $200-300 for lawyer which is far less than the cumulative cost of insurance increases over time.

How does that work if, like, you were actually speeding?

          Asking for a friend.

Only if you paint it yellow and print Don’t Tread On Me on it.

I was also very confused, so I looked it up now. So, here goes:

So, to bend the knee means several things. In the context of this post it means submitting to authority, in this case specifically, doing whatever Trump tells to.

The flag has been a libertarian symbol for a few decades, but in the last five-ish years fascists and MAGAts have started using it so much that it gets associated with them by default.

Historically, that flag has been a symbol of the war for freedom from British rule.

A “Showerthought” is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you’re doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

  • Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
  • When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
  • More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as “capitalism” and “communism”. If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy’s Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
