    This is why the Simpsons is set in Springfield without a state name. That way you could imagine it’s not too far away.

      Yes. It’s because Matt Groening lived near Springfield, Oregon while Mike Skully was from Springfield, Massachusetts. This gave them the idea that everyone will think it’s “their Springfield” and leaned into the joke of it.

    • You’re right about the producers not wanting it to be in any specific state, but there is no city or town name that exists in every state. There’s only a Springfield in 34 states, but it’s one of the most common names.
