For AI that no one asked for and at best seems to be used to make comical videos of unphysical unrealistic situations that never happened.

  • Screw consoles and high end computer gaming. Games started looking very good since the PS2 gen. They were just low res. Low end PC gaming is where it’s at. Recently I went back to replay emulated Viewtiful Joe, the old KOTOR games PC version, emulated god of war - they look great. On Steam bought the first Rage and it runs on a basic cheap computer now and I think it looks great. Steam Deck is PS4 level. Don’t need a PS5 and definitely won’t need a PS6. The future is gameplay not graphics

This generation is the first time that a console that is half a decade old has continued to rise in price instead of falling.

    • Please buy our 6 year old console for an increased price that we kind of forgot to make games for.

    • 4 hours

And where there is little benefit between generations for gamers. No wow for graphics or gameplay. Just more expensive and slightly improved. It’s similar to phones. In an effort to have mass appeal, they try to appeal to all levels of hardware, so can’t fully take advantage of the new. In the past, it just wouldn’t launch on older hardware. However, even the big studios were more like indies back then.

    • They want us to pay an assload up front and also pay more for games and to play online compared to PC? This will probably be my last console.

      • Also iirc they’re adding age verification for a bunch of online features, like chat. But not for the online store, because of course not :P

      • Paying to play online is what got me off the consoles.

100$ per year x 10 years = a pretty decent pc. (At least until recently).

The PS4 is the last console I’ll ever own.

With ram & gpu prices skyrocketing, todays gaming PCs will have a long life IMO.

        • That was the Switch for me. Went PS3 -> Wii U -> Switch then when Nintendo started charging I stopped playing.

        • PCs are even more expensive, but the gaming value over time is huge, especially if you factor in 🏴‍☠️.

          • I bought a replacement video card on 2019. It was replacing my 10 year old card. When I built my new PC, it was replacing a pc I begrudgingly installed win7 on. I have emulators from up to PS2. Pc gaming has crazy ROI.

            • Seriously is. You can have whole console collections of Roms and they only take up a speck of your external hard drive. Glorious.

  • 16 hours

Cause everyone is broke and gas prices keep rising making everything in our lives more expensive.

    • excluding those 2 things, the high price of the console and games itself isnt exactly a worthy thing to buy. if the games are crappy too.

    • 11 hours

And the console is like 8 years old, so anyone who wants one already has one.

  • It seems like consoles are in a death spiral of price increases and lower sales.

I’m in a good spot financially and can afford new games and consoles on release date if I choose to. However I generally wait a few years after their release.

I haven’t bought a new release game or console for myself in over a decade and I’ve only bought one or two titles at full price for my kids in the last three years.

It just doesn’t seem worth it.

    • Yeah exactly. New games are often buggy and I just can’t justify the cost. If they’re interesting, I put em on my steam wishlist and get them when they’re on offer.

    • people are only interested in playing on thier phones, or PAD at this point. people who have a pc might just stick with pc games.

    • 6 hours

Thank you! I am one of the same with you, I could buy, but I choose to wait. Everyone deserves e better prices and I think everyone should wait to buy their games. Companies get greedy fast

    • 15 hours

Same. Been just playing random indie games that I find on sale. Way more fun. The only game I’m even eyeballing is baldurs gate which I’ll play one day so I’m in no rush.

  • 20 hours

Not surprised, cost of living is way up and it’s been on the market for half a decade now

    • besides the HCOL, producing slop games as an AAA isnt exactly attracting old or new customers.

    • I know it’s true, but it just doesn’t feel right. I even worked with PS5s for 4 years and it still doesn’t seem right

      • I still remember driving home with my damn PS4 to play the new God of War like it was yesterday. This time business needs to slow tf down.

        • 12 hours

That’s the neat part. It doesn’t slow down, on the contrary.

  • 15 hours

I’m happy with my linux machine. Consoles would have to be a lot cheaper to be tempting. Or I’d have to make a lot more money.

    • 6 hours

      Yep.

I can’t imagine ever buying another console again.

Have a steam deck and set up my budget Linux machine yesterday.

Got so many PS2 and PS3 games I can’t play anymore on a single device. Never going to have that problem again.

  • 19 hours

Lol… It was foolish of Sony to retire from the PC market… Exclusives will not entice people to buy a PS5 in this economy.

    • I bought a ps5, and like what exclusives?

Since 2020 I bought like 6 games? (At least ones that aren’t remasters)

Horizon forbidden West, god of war Ragnarok, ghost of yotei, GT7, Spider-Man2, and returnal.

Of these only 2 are still exclusives.

Not great value for a ps5, I thought I’d be buying more single player exclusives but there just aren’t that many.

Even if Sony locks down future titles to being exclusive, they are not making enough to justify a console over a pc.

  • Companies would be foolish to release new consoles any time in the next 3 to 5 years. None of this is going away anytime soon.

    • It’s still fucking ridiculous that billionaire literally just bought the world’s computing supply for a decade to build something no one wants and no one even knows how to make profitable…

It’s getting to the point where it only makes sense if they don’t want us to have computers anymore.

      • 17 hours

They absolutely don’t want you to have computers anymore.

      • They’ve deluded themselves into thinking they can achieve full ai and take over the world. These tech billionaires got their money young and never grew up because of it

        • Upside is that it means they’ll go full throttle until they smash into the economic equivalent of a pilon barrier. Maybe we’ll get lucky and see some of them kill themselves a la people jumping to their deaths at wallstreet when the great depression set in.

Look a man can dream, and I dream of death and bloodshed.

    • 14 hours

It’s not going to go away….ever. They’ve decided to control every thing and never let go this time.

    • Right, but the fact that this is obvious means that anyone who DOES release a console in this time period is going to be able to capture a lot of market share since they have little to no competition.

        • 47 minutes

Make a “nintendo” one (low specs but with quirky stuff), so that devs have to make an effort optimizing games and even make fun games.

    • And they’re really old now.

And hardly any new games have been released for it.

If MS wasn’t so cack-handed they’d be selling hardly any.

    • Yup. And if they don’t, it’s cause they can’t afford it, so a price increase certainly isn’t going to help things

  • I recently looked into buying one, and the cost is just so prohibitive, especially when you take into account that you have to buy another controller and a stand because the stand isn’t even included. And I would also want one of those chargers. And that doesn’t even include the games that are expensive too.

I also noticed that whenever I look at games for the PS4, it says in a disclaimer that the game might not work right on the PS5. I don’t know what’s going on with that, but it doesn’t inspire confidence.

    • 17 hours

It’s just a cover-their-ass disclaimer. PS4 compatibility is pretty good in general, I think only like two games don’t work.

Don’t forget that you also have to pay them $10 a month of you want the luxury of playing those expensive games online

    • Yeah they are so weird about supporting their stuff. Speaking as a former PS VR owner…

And don’t get me started about the very few games that really take advantage of the PS5 hardware.

      • 23 fucking games. I’m pretty sure the PS1, 2, 3, AND 4 had that many within a year of their releases. The fuck are you doing sony?

        • 14 hours

Wait when did people start demanding exclusives instead of complaining about them

          • Less so in favor of exclusives and moreso baffled by how barren the PS5 is for them since it’s such a major driver of console sells. Especially given how many indie and AA studios would probably be willing to give Sony exclusive rights if they chucked the budget of failed projects like hero shooter whatsyamacallit with the botch retro scifi aesthetic.

          • 14 hours

If you’re trying to sell a game console, what can that console offer except exclusives? It’s more a comment at how bad at business these giant cororations are than a complaint.
